I am trying to get moss to grow on my topiaries. It seems that overnight the moss died. I live in Illinois and it has been in the upper 80's. I have them in direct sunlight. I dont really have any shady areas because I live in a brand new house. How can I keep them green and not brown. Also I dont want them to die. Any help would be appricated.

Moss lives in the shade. Direct sunlight will kill it because it depends on moisture to survive. You can try to encourage it by scraping a little into a vessel and crush it up. After you crush the moss, add milk and paint it on your topiaries. The moss really needs to be kept moist. I have it growing on my landscape stones, but they are all in shade.

It's too sunny for the moss and many types of mosses are not heat tolerant either.

They need partial to full shade and lots of water.
