ddr and ddr2 is two different things with two different pins so you can't use both at a time i recommended you to use ddr2 not the ddr

This is most unlikely, since not many motherboards have support for both DDR and DDR2 memory modules.

DDR and DDR2 memory modules have different physical and electronic architectures. DDR RAM has 184 pins while DDR2 has 240. Therefore, you should not try to put either in a slot meant for the other, otherwise you could severely damage your memory modules and motherboard slots.

I do know that there are a few motherboards which have support for both kinds of RAM. In that case, firmly insert the 1 GB DDR2 module in the specified slot.

Now, even if your motherboard has support for both, you would only be able to use one type of RAM at a time. That is, you cannot use both and get 1.5 GB of DDR/DDR2 memory. It will be either 512 GB DDR or 1 GB DDR2. Go with the DDR2, which is obvious.

You can not put the 240 pin ddr2 on the 184 pin slot of ddr. BUT if your motherboard has another set of slots for ddr2, then put the 1Gb ddr2 stick there. But be sure to REMOVE the 512Mb ddr first before you turn on the computer. DDR2 and ddr can NOT work together at the same time.

Yes, ddr2 RAM can be installed without harming your motherboard. You have already determined that your board supported the specified RAM. However, as indicated by previous writer, you cannot have both type 1 and 2 on your board. You must choose either of the two.

Enjoy your computer.

you can take the 512 out and put the 1 gig in but you can not put in two different modules of RAM at the same time.
