'08: Tim Raines
'09: Rickey Henderson for sure, i would vote for Mark Grace but i don't think people would.
'10: i would vote for both Edgar Martinez and Barry Larkin not sure if they are going to be elected.
'11: Jeff Bagwell is sure for me but then again i don't vote. John Franco not sure but worth mentioning here lol. Rafael Palmerio would be here if he had retired before we found out the truth about him and steroids.

Definately: Rickey Henderson

Probably: Fred McGriff, Jeff Bagwell, John Franco

Eventually get in: David Cone, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Larry Walker and dare I say Rafael Palmeiro

'08: Tim Raines and that's it. '09: Rickey Henderson (if he doesn't retire again) and that's it. I'd like to say David Cone, but I can't. '10: Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez and Fred McGriff. '11: Jeff Bagwell and John Franco. Juan Gonzalez and Rafael Palmeiro are disqualified as steroid users. '12: No one.

Of those, only Henderson and maybe Bagwell are likely to get in on the first ballot.

For sure Alomar and Henderson make it first ballot.

You could make a case for Raines, Grace, Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin, and Jeff Bagwell. They should get in but it will probably take awhile. The only other person I could see getting in would be Olerud or maybe Cone but they have small chances.

Everyone else will never make it.

Named players are in eventually. * == first ballot

2008: Raines (I sure hope so)

2009: *Rickey. Grace is going to get some votes, not nearly enough, but will probably hang around the ballot for his full 15 years like Garvey did.

2010: *Alomar, Larkin, McGriff. Edgar Martinez is the first great acid test for DHs. I have no idea how the writers will treat him. He deserves the plaque.

2011: *Bagwell. There's a few interesting candidates here. Franco may deserve it -- I haven't decided -- but the writers may yet not have found their footing wrt relievers/closers. Gonzalez should get some votes, but that long, slow train wreck that ended his career is just weird; I cannot think of another player of ANY caliber who went down the drain for that long and that inexorably. We SHOULD have seen a 600-home run monster; we got 434 and a huge medical file. I doubt he gets in, but he'd look good on a plaque. Palmeiro utterly deserves it from his playing career, but he's got a smoking gun in his hand. How the writers treat McGwire going forward might give us some indication of how Raffy will get treated, but he's got a much longer row to hoe, and at first blush it doesn't look very promising for him.

2012: shutout for the listed candidates.

If the Veterans Committee will extract its consensus crania from its collective recta, 2009 will usher in Santo and 2011 will see the long overdue and unquestionably merited plaque for Marvin Miller.

I don't know all the criteria, but I think Rickey Henderson and Edgar Martinez should warrant serious consideration. Some writers have suggested Rafael Palmeiro, but a lot of that was just juiced up, empty numbers. Palmeiro was rarely clutch and was a compiler. Henderson was the best base stealer i saw, and Martinez may have been the best DH(although i also really liked Don Baylor in that role).

Not very many slam dunk candidates
I will give you who I think have the best shot.
'08 Tim Raines-mostly because of his stolen base total-The fact that he stayed around too long might hurt him.
'09 Ricky Henderson-the best leadoff hitter ever-Mark Grace-one of the best contact hitters in the game. He is still a maybe!
'10 Roberto Alomar and Edgar Martinez maybe
'11 Jeff Bagwell maybe
'12 none of those guys
