Yes Kobe Bryant may be a ball hog, but there is a reason. He has not support, ever since Shaq left. He's pretty much doing everything by himself. Well, he has to since no one can score. Any opinions?

Well, since his wanting to run Shaq out of town so he could monopolize the ball was motivated by his unselfishness (sur-r-re), I'd have to say a new nickname for him, besides "Baby Kryant," could be "Ballhog City."

I don't think Kobe would be as much of a ball hog if he were surrounded by three point shooters like Barbosa, Bell, Kapono, Gibson, or Terry. Instead, he has Smush Parker, Sasha Vujacic, Brian Cook, and Mr. I hurt myself snowboarding. Point is, he doesn't have a good second stud to help him. Odom was hurt the entire season, Walton has a horrible shot, and their entire team sucks at overall defense. What is Kobe supposed to do? If he passes, they brick...it's kinda like what LeBron went through in Game 3...open looks for his teammates to shoot 3's...but they brick it off...Kobe's mates can't shoot perimeter shots and Odom isn't as good from the outside as he is inside. That's why he has to resort to shooting a lot, so they have the chance of breaking 90+ points and the fact they don't play good defense makes it more difficult to win. MJ had great role players, (Kerr could shoot the 3, Pippen is 3 times better then Odom, Rodman was a beast on the boards and their team defense was great). This off season, they need to cut a few players and sign some good three point shooters that can play some good D...and of course get a second stud to take the pressure off of him...

Also...he's not the only "ball hog" of the league...you know who I consider ball hog? A person who basically has the ball for the majority of the shot clock...so who would that include?

Steve Nash (he has the ball until he shoots or passes it to an open man to jus shoot it)

D-Wade
Iverson
Carmelo
LeBron

All studs are gonna hog the ball...4th quarter or not...they run the team, so they have to have the ball in their hands..

You're perfectly correct. It depends on what you call a ballhog. If it's any guy who shoots first before he considers passing, then Kobe is a ballhog. MJ was named a ballhog too, but that's besides the point. If it's a guy, like MJ or Kobe, who can shoot "Lights Out" and not affect the team negatively, then it's okay. I was very young, but whenever I watched MJ take shoots, I don't remember him missing a whole lot. Kobe's just about the same. The only difference is that MJ's talent ALONG with other remarkable role players, that team was deadly whether he jacked up 30 shots per game or not. When Kobe doesn't take 30 attempts a night (in order to be most effective, Kobe NEEDS to get in a rhythmn; he's a high-volume shooter; there are a few exceptions) the team normally can't live off Lamar's contributions (which vary from game to game) as well as the other inconsistent Laker forces. Kobe's a special exception to the ballhogging principle.

Even when Shaq was there, Kobe was reluctant to give up the ball. It's just the way he is. Lebron has less support than Kobe but he constantly gives up the ball knowing full well that no one can stop him.

he sure is...anytime you put up 85 points in a game is because your tryin to show off, he could be a little more of a team player... thats what i think, him and shaq together were unstopable... if kobe want a ball hog shaq wouldn't have left... and ya that white girl had nothing to do with him leaving

He is not a ball hog. He is a shooting gaurd. He is supposed to shoot the ball. And plus his teamates cant make baskets when he does pass it to them. Lamar cant dunk, and misses free throws. Kwame cant catch the ball. Smush thinks hes playing at Rucker park. Sasha thinks he is Peja. Brian Cook is trigger happy. Luke Walton is a role player and is going to get resigned. Andrew Bynum is A panty-watse. Jordan Farmar is going to be the next Jason Kidd. Micth Kupchuk is an alcoholic.

the reason noone on the team can score is because he doesnt let them. they cant score if they never touch the ball. he is a shoot first guy and is a ballhog. and to the guy who said kobe doesnt miss a lot YOU ARE WRONG! he scores so much because he shoots 30+ shots a game. i did fantasy basketball and kobe had like 180 points in like 5 days and his shootin percentage was only in the .300s. he isnt even good

let me point out one thing: anyone who thinks lebron has a worse supporting cast than kobe is completely STUPID and doesn't deserve to watch real basketball because these people are probably the same who think lebron is so great when it's obvious he's not.

look who the lakers have:
bynum - no post work, feet made of stone, leading to awkard movements. has 2nd worst hands in nba after kwame.
kwame - worst hands in the nba. soft. still doesn't know how to play basketball.
mihm - actual post moves, yet injured the past year and half. so basically useless.
odom - soft, misfit in triangle offense. inconsistent.
cook - good pick and pop shooter. however, only thing he can do.
turiaf - energetic player however only set to be 2nd or 3rd string PF/C.
radmanovic - you're kidding me right?
walton - no athleticism. smart player yet can't consistently knock down a shot. more of a 6th man than starter
evans - athletic. shawn marion type shot meaning he can't shoot well.
farmar - point guard version of walton. 2nd string PG at best.
smush - look at radmanovic.
vujacic - shoots when he's not supposed to. doesn't shoot when he's supposed to (when shot clock is at 1 or 2). doesn't play effective D, leading to his horrible flopping. doesn't deserve to be on any nba team.

now kobe: best player in nba. best offensive player to ever grace the court. has to do everything because of this sad sack roster i've pointed out.

look at the roster and of this group of players only odom is meant to be a real starter, however not fit in the triangle and a 3rd option scorer at best. how in the world is that a worse supporting cast than lebrick james? this is just a sorry excuse for lebrick single-handedly sucking balls in the finals. "he doesn't get any help" blah blah blah. watch game 3 and you'll see how much help be got from big z, gooden (discounting his 2 stupid over-the-back fouls), and pavlovich. games 1 and 2 weren't even about lebrick james. it was about daniel gibson. your precious lebrick james sucks, face it people. overrated player.

for kobe to even get 3 players to help him on any given night is a miracle. the lakers definitely need a makeover.

def a ball hog. the lakers were better when he was injured and Lamar was the sole focus. Lamar Odom loses all confidence and ability when Kobe plays.

Well, the way I see it....he's not the only person on that team. There are 4 others on the court with a yellow and purple jersey on just like his. If he can win the game all by himself, then why are the other 4 playing? The truth is, he CAN'T win it all on his own. They're a TEAM. That means they play AS a team.
