Are you placing your hand on the dummies forehead? Pinching soft part of nose with index finger and thumb? Or seal with your cheek.
Are you opening the dummies mouth and using a PISTOL type grip over the chin thus head tilting and chin lifting?
I find that when the chest dosen't rise that it is the head extension angle that is the problem. Could you practise rolling a towel and putting it under the neck for a while?
Your dummy may have an air leak!
All the best...Alison

try tilting the head back by placing your hand on the forehead at the same time you lift the chin, head tilt/chin lift, not just chin lift. you need to make sure you got a good seal on the mouth as well. if air leaks out around the mouth you wont get enough in the lungs. is anyone else having the same problem. the manniquin may not be put together properly. they usually have parts that can be removed and if not placed properly it could cause air not to get into the lungs.

1. Your mouth is not open wide enough.
2. Poor seal between you and the manikin.
3. Mechanical problem in the manikin (mouth to lung seal, lung problem, etc.)
4. Not enough chin lift/head tilt.
5. Not big enough breaths.
6. Hand on chin pushing mouth closed. Try taking hand off chin totally for a couple breaths.
These are the most common problems I see in class.

it may be a loose seal as you give your breaths. you may not have adequate exhalation force to raise the chest or you really need to hyperextend the neck by repositioning the airway. last resort the balloon on the manequin may be lose.

You may be hyperextending the head. Try to avoid tilting the chin too far.
