Except for Jose Canseco and the deceased Ken Caminiti, Jason Giambi is one of the few major leaguers to be honest about using steroids. He admitted under oath to using steroids, sort of apologized two years ago at spring training, and recently told USA Today he was wrong to do "that stuff." That earned him a summons to Bud Selig's office, who ordered him to cooperate with the dormant George Mitchell investigation. In the interim, he failed a drug test for amphetamines. Now comes word that Mr. Selig is going to suspend Giambi if he doesn't. According to Si.com, he doesn't have to rat out all the cheaters (paging Barry Bonds), just talk about the overall usage in the league. Legally, Selig probably doesn't have this right (Scott Boras said that today on Jim Rome's show). Giambi has already said baseball should apologize, does he owe anyone more than that? Should Selig suspend him for being honest?

There is no way Bud Selig can suspend Giambi. This "probe" has no legal authority and no power of subpeona. If a player wishes to answer some questions he may, but he cannot be forced to volunteer. MLB Union will have Selig by the balls if he even tries to suspend him. Selig should stop trying to put all the blame on the players and accept his own culpability for the steroid era. He knew back in the McGwire/Sosa days that it was happening but turned his back because baseball needed the HR race.

The rules for violating the MLB and union drug policy is in place and defines the penalties. My understanding is Selig has no right to implement and set his own policy and I don't believe Selig has any intention of doing so. On the other hand, how stupid can Giambi be to test positive for the use of amphetamines after the steroid issue. We will have to wait and see how this thing plays out, as well as what the Yankees plan to do with him.

I'm a Yankee fan so I might be a little biased, but I don't think Jason Giambi should be suspended for not cooperating with Bud Selig's witchhunt. However, if he did test positive for amphetamines (which I wasn't aware of), then he should definitely be suspended when he comes off the disabled list. He should've learned the first time he did "all that stuff."

The only way Selig will suspend him is if he has proof of a failed substance test. The only rumor floating around that holds any water is that Giambi failed one during the off-season and that's why his apologies came out. Selig needs a sacrificial lamb to show that the policy has any weight to it. Baseball's WEAKEST commissioner ever is trying to look tough because Roger Goodell is making it look easy. Thank God this moron doesn't still control the Brewers...

It Giambi remains stubborn yes. He should be suspended because he will not cooperate with Mitchell's investigation. His admittance came in 2002, and 2005 is when the penalties were imposed. That is not the issue today. The issue is what has he been doing since then.. and where di he get his steroids and is he protecting someone else and hurting the integrity of baseball. Bonds has been the burnt of all media and tabloids -- no evidence he used steriods. With Bonds ready to break the record, it is time for baseball to rejoice not throw a pity party for Giambi... A "Super Duper" Drink... give me a break...

Jason Giambi hit a grand-slam home run in the 14th inning to defeat my team, the Twins, five years ago. I have NEVER gotten over this. Was he pumped up on steroids at the time? Who knows? It may not have been illegal at the time, but it was unfair.

No, he should not be....

He came out and said it... and truth is always respectable...

plus he admitted to using steroids in 1999-2001, steroids were not banned until 2002... and punishments werent handed out till 2005...

how can you suspend a guy for doing something that at the time, was not against the rules...????

Giambi is a great teammate and a great person but his baseball skills suck and I hope the Yankees can void his contract.

Any MLB player that can't hit to the opposite field is a total fraud in my book
