Absolutely possible. All the other person has to do is install a software called a keylogger. Or trick you into downloading and installing one.
The person responsible for the keylogger will then receive e-mails with an exact copy of everything you have typed on your keyboard. More advanced keyloggers will actually capture every screen on your monitor and mail pictures of them to the other party.
To protect against these keyloggers, scan your computer with both your anti-virus and your anti-spyware programs on a regular basis.
You DO have both an anti-virus AND an anti-spyware program, don't you?
Good luck!

I think your friend was refering to Spyware. It is a type of malware, which is basically something that tries to harm your computer, just like viruses.
To find out if you have Spyware, you can try the free program Spybot Search & Destroy, which can be found on Download.com.
Spyware may cause you to get your passwords for e-mail, myspace, etc. stolen.
Like the other answerer said, there is remote assistance, which is when you let a friend moniter your computer. But that's differant.
You can get spyware by surfing the web or downloading files. Be cautious when you visit sites that appear to be "fishy".
Spyware can have disastrous side affects, like starting up many ads, slowing down your computer, and in many occasions, destroying your computer.
Be careful, so you don't get spyware.
If you don't, they'res nothing to worry about.

One of the only ways it could be done is if you had more than one computer in your house and were using a router and receiver to get on line. Someone else nearby who also had a receiver could hack into your net service and therefore your PC. Most of the time your 2 computers need to be connected directly 2 one another but a good hacker can work around that.

It is possible that an application like this could be on your machine. It would have needed to get there somehow; but if you aren't too careful about what you click on, etc. its possible.
If you are unsure, go find a free anti-spyware tool, and an anti-virus scanner and run them. Make sure THOSE are from a reputable source though so you don't end up with something else bad on your machine.
Also, make sure you install any/all windows updates that Microsoft has to offer.
