Okay, i've never been a cheerleader in my life. I think it would be a good experience so i'm thinking about trying out next year (9th grade). I don't want to try out and not make it and I would like to make varsity. I'm pretty flexible because i've done gymnastics before but i have no idea if i'll make the squad! What do you think? Please help and if you have any tips I'd gladly accept them.

Try working on snapping your motions, doing jumps, cheers, and so forth. Go to a gym and make sure your tumbling is clean.

Good luck!

If you are flexible and have had gymnastics experience you have a great chance. I was stupid and tried out when I was seven, I disappointed myself so I joined gymnastics. I am now level 6 in gymnastics and can do some easy things (like back walk over one handed) which might be useful if I were to try out again. If you can keep to the rhythm and the music, you should be OK. Flexibility works. Are you scared or jumping or trying new things? Practise first but you should be fine.

Good luck!

Go to the try-outs and do the best you can. If they see that your trying your hardest they will take that into consideration. Remember to smile, and to keep your motions tight. You said your pretty flexible so that will be to your advantage. And also, if you don't make varsity your freshman year, stick with the team you make (JV or Freshman team). You'll get a lot of experience and they will prepare you for varsity (and the only reason I say this is becasue it's harder for freshman to make a varsity team) Best of Luck at the tryouts!

Make sure you keep your arms straight, gymnastics should definatley help because you will be good at tumbling, do some weightlifting, stretch a lot, run as much as you can before tryouts, eat healthy before tryouts, when you find out what you will be doing for tryouts practice as much as you can, practice jumps (helps a lot if you try the jumps on a trampoline first), get with someone that will be trying out with you and practice together, try a lot of voice drills~to do voice drills lay on flat on your back with your hands on your stomach and yell out some cheers-yell from your diaphram not your throat-this will help you be able to yell louder and not lose your voice after a couple of cheers.
