a popular black cable network (you know the one) has a posted forum on it's website, alleging that light-skinned blacks will be found more appealing (physically) than dark-skinned blacks.
am i in the dark here? i mean why are we still talking about things like this amongst ourselves in 2007? shouldn't we make a better effort to build and not destroy? it just seems to me that stories and studies like that only further perpetuate stereotypes and negativity within the race.
sound off......

***just a note: i appreciate every answer...however, i was more concerned that we have this popular Black network spending time doing a survey of this sort. we need for "black entertainment television" to be more positive and responsible toward ou people...and not focused on competing with "music tv".

I agree with you. You would think that after all of the folks who died during the Civil Rights Movement, we would be able to appreciate what they did for us and move the heck on.
We DO need to unite instead of divide. It's quite sad. My first cousins (three females) have this very issue. The oldest repeatedly tells the others how she is the "lightest". WTF is that supposed to mean??!!
So, I totally feel you. It's bad enough when we do that among our race, but in our families too? That's ingrained a bit too much and something needs to be done.
Peace

It may just be you or the people in the forum. Ive personally never come across a situation where one blk discriminted against another because of the hue of thier skin.Just dosent happen much in the real world or at least where Im from.

But my guess is women may have more of a problem with this than men.

Well not all Black people are hung up on skin color, I personally love all Black people regardless of color. But if you look at the Black television shows, music videos, magazines and movies the lighter skin women are praised and preferred. I don't get but some of us are still brainwashed.
