Incase you dont know who he is, Adrián González is the Padres 1st Basemen, he was drafted by the Florida Marlins in 2000 in the first round. He then found his way to the Texas Rangers where he made his MLB Debut in 2004. In 2 seasons he played 59 games (Behind Mark Teixeira). He then became the Padres starting first basemen in 2006 where he got in his first full season playing in 156 games scoring 83 runs, 82 RBI and hit 24 HRs. This season he has played in 65 games and already has 37 Runs 46 RBI and 13 HR (including today where he went 2/3 with a run and an RBI) he is currently on pace to hit .289 with 92 Runs, 32 HR's and 115 RBI. In your oppinion is this Padres lefty the real deal? If so why do you think so?

Adrian Gonzalez is definitely the real deal, and you can't measure his production just against Teixeira's. Teixeira plays in a hitter's park (Petco is death valley), he has more lineup production and the NL west has tougher pitching. It took a little longer for AGon to develop because he came out of HS, as opposed to Teixeira (out of Ga Tech).

Two things separate AGon from most young first basemen. 1) He is a gold glove caliber 1B. He plays 1B like a shortstop, and can make the throw home as well as any infielder in the league. He improves all the other IF because of his range and ability to scoop low throws.
2) His power is to the opposite field, which allows him to adjust to lefties and avoid prolonged slumps. If the Petco fences are moved in as rumored, Agon may hit 40 hrs eventually.

Not only is he the real deal but he is not close to his upside potential. At some point in time 2 or 3 years from now he should settle in at 310-38-125 into his prime. Very good now and soon to become one of the elite players in MLB.

Yes he is the real deal. I play fantasy baseball and he is on two of my teams. I picked him because I knew he was going to be a 30 homerun guy and he has more great years infront of him. When you dont get to play everyday like he did in texas everyone is going to say that he's a one hit wonder, but his first full year he proved everyone wrong.

Yes this guy is the real deal. You have to think of the amount of home runs his ball park takes of him. Plus the offence around him arent great.
