You are not using the distributive method! The 2 on the outside of the paranthesis must be multiplied by both the x and the 2 on the inside. It should look like this!

2(x-2)=x+3
2x-4 = x+3

Then get your variables on one side and your whole numbers on the other!

2x - 4 = x + 3
2x - 4 + 4 = x + 3 + 4
2x = x + 7
2x - x = x - x +7
x = 7

Hope this helped!!! I am a math teacher, so if ya ever need help again let me know!!!

The first error was in removing the parenthesis. Anything in parenthesis must be done first. The first step should be:

2x - (2*2) = x + 3
2x-4 = X + 3
2x-4+4 = X + 3 + 4
2x = X + 7
2x + 1x = X-X + 7
3x = 7
x = 7/3

First of all, if you multiply the x by 2 (to eliminate the parentheses), you must also multiply the 2 by 2, thus giving you
2x-4=x+3

the next step would be
2x-x=3+4 (change positives and negatives when switching sides)
giving you
x=7

now just to be sure: 2(7-2)=7+3
14-4=7+3
10=10

there you go dude

2(x-2)=x+3 2 times x and 2 times -2
2x+4=x+3
-3 -3

2x+1=x

when you multiply 2(x-2) you would get 2x-4, so the first step would look like 2x-4=x+3. x = 7

2(x-2)=x+3
2x-4=x+3
-x+4=-x+4

x=7

it should be:
2x-4=x+3

because 2(x-2)=2x-4
