I do. Well, not pointless, but do you really need an expensive ring and ceremony just to show someone you love them?

Do you really need a piece of paper and a ring to show somebody you love them? Personally I find marriage to be pointless... Weddings are romantic and a fun way to get family together, but i'd rather have a cookout.

Pointless??.........Yes!
The expensive ring......not necessary.
The big $10,0000+ ceremony +flowers +bridesmaids dresses and best men tuxes....not necessary.
The big hoopla "reception".......not necessary.
The " piece of paper" marriage license.......means the same if you go to a city justice or a father or pastor or reverend, etc, of the church.

I've been married in a big church hoopla, the whole nine yards, and then I've been divorced. I've then been married by the city mayor...and still married. Was the first more important?......no. Did the first mean more?.....no. Did I love the first more?....no. Will the second be shorter because it was not "celebrated hugely"?......nope, doesn't mean a thing.

Tradition?.........If that's what you want, then fine. If you don't want that...fine too. Do what you want....do what makes you both happy. Dont do so-called "tradition" just because somebody else thinks you should. In the end, it's just the bride and the groom, and their day to remember. Everyone else will forget about it in a couple years. You need to do what you both want to do.

a wedding is a "ceremony", and a "tradition". So yes it's important. Some people don't want a wedding but then years later (kinda like prom) they look back and if they didn't have one (or get to go) then they pine for that and wish they had.

You don't need an expensive ring, but etiquette states that the ring should cost the man at least one month of his salary. And then the girls look at her ring and either they can tell if the guy is stingy or cheap or if he has position and can provide for her for the rest of her life like he's supposed to. You are judged by your peers, and by the work and career world.

If the person has any religion in them, yes they would want to seal the deal, plus have something to remember the "big day in their life"...and, who wants to look like a bum in wedding pictures anyway.

Not generally, because it's one of life's rituals. However, if a wedding takes over 20 minutes and there's no reception? Then it's pointless. It's like I wasted all my time for THIS?

No I don't. Not all wedding ceremonies are expensive and even if they are, as long as the people getting married are happy then that's all that matters.

it depends on the people involved. but no you do not need a rock on your finger, and a big ceremony to make a marriage. it can be a simple gathering of family and friends to celebrate you union.

Weddings are too extravagant and in no way measure the love and commitment two people have for each other.

a small simple wedding is nice, save most of the money for the honeymoon. the honeymoon makes all the difference anyways.

The movie, "The five people you meet in heaven" ... well, I love her idea of spending heaven at everyone's wedding to witness the beauty of love (Sigh).
