Usually I am against induction, for me it led to a long hard labor and ended in a cesarean section...(my induction caused my c-section!)
Castor oil is slightly dangerous unless you are advised by an OB or midwife how much to take...It is a laxative and can cross the placenta and cause the baby to pass meconium (first poop) while still inside, raising the risk for serious infection and pneumonia.
Sex, and nipple stimulation are great because they actually cause a release in natural labor inducing hormone oxytocin, which is what is administered synthetically at a medical induction called pitocin, but your body will not usually produce to high of an amount naturally, so you can't OD!
Walking is also really good, as it helps the baby navigate the pelvic bones and put more pressure on the cervix helping to aid dilation and or effacement.
She could try large quantities of red raspberry leaf tea.
And if you consult a midwife or other professional herbalist they may be able to recommend an amount of blue and or black Cohosh, which might help.
The onset of labor is actually jointly controlled by the mother's and the fetus' endocrine system... The placenta and the fetus actually produce a hormone called CRH Corticotropin releasing hormone. The rate at which the hormone is produced and released is sometimes referred to as the "feto-placental clock", some women's clocks are faster or slower, which helps to explain why healthy term babies arrive anytime between 37 and 42 weeks.
Patience is probably what is needed most right now, as trying to force labor when mother and baby are clearly not ready can actually lead to more dangerous complications.
Average first pregnancy length is 41 weeks 1 day while pregnancies with prior births average 40 weeks 3 days.
Only 4% of babies arrive on their estimated due date, while 2/3's arrive within 10 days, (38 weeks 5 days to 41 weeks 3 days.)
Maybe if your daughter wasn't so stressed about making her body fit into that timeline, she would relax and things might happen naturally. Stress can slow or stall labor.
Good luck, wishing you a safe and happy birth and hoping for a timely one for you

Here is a good site
http://pregnancychildbirth.suite101.com/article.cfm/natural_ways_to_induce_labor
Spicy food
Some people swear that it was that extra-hot enchilada from their favorite Mexican restaurant that brought them face to face with their new baby. Unfortunately, the statistics are out on this one. You could try it, but if you have a full stomach when you are in labor, you might vomit and see that enchilada again--in less-than-appetizing circumstances.
Blue and black cohosh
These herbs are used often to induce labor. They may be particularly effective if you are having weak or irregular contractions. Blue cohosh is believed to make uterine contractions stronger, while black cohosh may regulate the contractions. Together, they work to make contractions more effective. Unfortunately, no studies have determined that these natural treatments are safe, or whether all versions of the herb available for purchase are of equal potency. Be sure to discuss any herbal treatment with your practitioner before attempting it, to see if it is a good idea in your situation.
Nipple stimulation
Some women massage their nipples as a way to induce labor. This stimulation brings about the release of oxytocin, which is the natural form of pitocin. Oxytocin causes contractions, which sometimes evolve into labor.
Most practitioners are not enthusiastic about this method of inducing labor, because it has been known to lead to excessively long, strong uterine contractions sometimes resulting in fetal heart rate slowing. Unless your practitioner advises it and is monitoring your progress closely, nipple stimulation is not recommended as a means for beginning labor.
Stripping the membranes
Your practitioner may offer to "strip your membranes" to help start your labor. This procedure usually feels like a vaginal examination, although it sometimes can be painful or cause cramping. The practitioner places her gloved finger through the cervix and sweeps the amniotic membranes free of their attachment to the lower part of the uterine cavity. This process is believed to release hormone-like substances called prostaglandins, which help to ready your body for labor.
While some experts believe that stripping the membranes causes you to go into labor that day, the only research on this procedure was done by a group of midwives who stripped the membranes of a group of their patients at every visit to the office after 38 weeks gestation. Their findings showed that patients who had this procedure were less likely to go past their due dates. According to the study, the procedure didn't seem to pose any complications and didn't cause the patients' waters to break.
Even though your practitioner would be the one to do the procedure (vs. the other methods that can be done by you at home), we include it here because it is a non-medical intervention.

If the friend is full term (over 37 weeks) than she probably wont get a lot of negative comments. I think the best thing is for her to call the doc and see if they will induce her given the suituation. I wish her luck!!

My doctor had me go 4 wheeling. I live at 7,000ft and we drove up to 10,000 feet on a bumpy trail, per my doctors advice. That was a Monday, Thurs I drank castor oil, next day was in labor. Who knows for sure. Breast stimulation can help, as it releases oxytocin in the brain. I don't see any issues if she is full term. I was full term, my water broke and I progressed so slow I had to get Pitocin. The Piocin is worse!

If she's in full term and no health risks... Why not ask the doctor to induce her labor... As long as the baby is healthy and she's healthy I don't see any reason why they wouldn't induce her labor... I was induced and it was a good experience... It was like checking into the hospital and checking out with a baby... I didn't have to have anxiety about if I'd be home "When it happened" or if my husband would be at work....etc....

Tell her to walk as much as possible to help labor along. Gravity kick in and helps start the dialation process sometimes. Besides that, if she is full term she could call her OB tomorrow and ask them to enduce her. OB's are pretty sympathedic to things like that and may consider induceing her if she is in fact full term and no harm will come to the baby.

Honestly...Orgasm works great for labor induction!!
(causes uterine contractions)
I read in "What to expect when you're expecting" that nipple stimulation works (it does have downfalls though)
1. It takes about 3 hours a day to work
2. Produces VERY strong contractions (as oxytocin can) which would lead to trouble.
They recommend that you do not try this without Dr.'s recommendation!!
Good luck to your daughter. Hope she delivers TONIGHT!

I walked the mall(a rather large mall) with my husband, just shopping around for cute baby stuff. And my water broke that night. Two weeks early and two days before my scheduled C-section. Tell them to go walking alot and make sure its something she likes doing so that she won't get tired or uncomfortable. I love shopping, so time just flew, while normally i would have been beat after 10 minutes on my feet. Good Luck!! ;)

Might seem like a strange suggestion, but people at work have mentioned chilli sauce as a good inducer.
