Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. It depends on how confusing the game is. For example, when I first got the game Kingdom Hearts, I thought I would be able to play it easily but then figured out that it was actually pretty hard so I got a guide to play with. For a board game I always use a manual guide because without reading one, you really don't know what the game is about or what the goal of the game is. I hope this answered your question.

I don't read the manuals for video games because i get the hang of it easily, but i read board game manuals because you have to understand them more clearly.

We are big board game players in our home.
We always read all the rules before starting.

Video Games: my teenage son does not read the manual, for the most part, before playing.

IF i had never played the game before then yes i would read it. If i had played with some one else who showed me then no i would not. However people like to add things along into the game to make them funner so i guess it really all depends.

I like to discover things on my own. Sometimes in very complex games I find myself breezing through the manual to find out something I need to know.

Sometimes. If it is for an RPG, reading it is a must since it always has some info you will overlook or help you avoid a mistake which causes you to restart.
