There's a lot of countries that we've conquered and are now our vassals (this includes any countries that have an American base on them) Some of them are: Japan (conquered twice), all the Indian nations that are now in reservation, Israel, Canada, Peru, South Korea, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and many others.

Yes, because the definition of a empire is a government that rules over many different cultures which i think is the definition of what America is

No.

You need to find more objective history sources. The USA is currently the only superpower. Most counties that have American bases on them benefit in several ways from their presence.

We saved Japan after World War II. The country stood at the edge of a total economic and social collapse, and could have been taken over by the Soviet Union (as some of it was.) Our presence rescued the people, restored order and led them to a government that has been far better than anything which preceded it.

Most intelligent and well-educated Japanese would agree with this.

And I wish we could say we were running Saudi Arabia. Maybe we could get my gas prices back below a dollar a gallon.

The only one of those Nations that you mentined did we conquer and that was Japan, and look at them now. Vassel of US??? Not hardly! A very self suffucient, educated country that we helped build. The Indians that are on reservations are there only because that is where they want to be! Dude get you facts striaght before coming in here and opening that pie hole!

nick,

There's a lot more to the story than that one-liner you have in your question. Treaties, pacts, invitations from governments, these all interact with placement of our troops in foreign areas. Think about it - do we CONTROL any of these countries? No, we are there for mutual security and local protection. One excellent point you make - Indian reservations. Terrible what we did to those people. If you ever go on one (some are in pretty good shape) that is in financial trouble it will make you cry to see the conditions that the people are forced to live in.

We don't tax those countries. We should start taxing the countries that we have our military bases on, then we can change the name to the "American Empire." Im kidding of course.

So typical of some U.S. citizenry to want to conquer and dominate the world. Sorry, but Canada is not one of them and hopefully we never will be. We can hold our heads up high wherever we travel in the world and as long a we distinguish ourselves as Canadian and not U.S. we are shown a great more respect immediately. Further, where do you get off in calling yourselves "American"? We are Canadian and live in North America. What part of America do you live in?

it already is an empire...no need to state the obvious

and to the Canadian....yeah you have to distinguish yourselves as Canadians because you can never get involved in anything because you are not strong leaders. You are followers...I lived overseas for many years and always saw Canadians with flags on their bags, shirts, etc....it was pathetic to have to say I am Canadian not American (and yes we can call ourselves American because that word links us to the USA...our homeland and we are pround of it...and if someone is not then LEAVE)

Nah, by the time we replace the stationery and change all the road signs the empire will have collapsed and we'll have to change it all back.
