you need.....a 12 volt test probe, a voltmeter, some tool,s & the help of a friend......clean& tighten your battery terminal,s...check your battery voltage....must be at least 12.5 volt,s.....take test probe under the vehicle....ground the pig tail end.....go to starter...test main bolt/lug on the selonoid...should be hot....then have your friend turn the ignition switch to start position..[ carefull...may crank]....test small terminal on selonoid marked S...this should be hot with switch at start position...if yes...it,s probably your starter/selonoid...if no....it,s in your ignition switch or wiring......the problem is that your problem is intermittant....this test will work if the problem present,s itself...otherwise all will test normal.....most likley it,s a bad connection or in a moving part....such as starter/selonoid....or ignition switch....they get the most wear & tear....these problem,s can be frustrating....good luck!

This could be many items . Are your battery terminals clean and tight ? When was the last time you replaced the battery ? If it has been 3 years or more the battery may not always hold a charge . A weak battery can cause all kind,s of problems as it will be a drain on the electrical system . If you live in part of the country where their is extreme weather changes [ cold winters with / without snow / hot summers this will wear out a battery , electrical charging system early . Have you ever replaced the fuel filter ? One filter may be in line from the fuel pump to the injector,s / carburetor . The other one may either be just outside of the fuel tank or inside the fuel tank . If you are able , go to a part,s store most of them can do a " Load Test " . This check,s the battery , electrical charging system , starter .I hope this gives you some ideas . Been there , Did this . LOL

If it wont crank at all and the lights turn on I would say its the starter, alternator, or the battery. You'll have to diagnose the problem. Try to jump start the car. If it doesn't start the starter is shot, if it does then take the battery to a local auto store and get it tested. Also make sure the battery cables arent corroded. There are a number of things to check if there are problems after that...but I woudln't reccomend doign anything else unless you know what you are doing.

Could be any number of electrical problems , but the usual suspects would be either your starter or starter solenoid your best bet though would be to grab the Haynes manual for your year vehicle and scan the trouble shooting tips, there may be a specific problem with that year elsewhere in the electrical . from what it sounds like (being intermittent) my best guess is the solenoid and it will only get worse if thats the case. Check the technical service bulletins to ( www.autopedia.com ) look under TSB's usually your answer is going to be in there.

wont crank.... try crank shaft or the starter... go to an auto paarts store and see if they will run a code reader on it (aka diagnostcs)
If its a 98 its about time for that to happen anyways... alsocould be as simple as a lose plug but those usually have more tell tell signs

Little things to check for, split wires for the battery cables, check the alternator if it was ever replaced they might have gotten one to small that wont hold a charge or to big that draws to much. Chevys are fickle little creatures but the parts are cheap and easy to find and easier to replace/install.

go to the local and friendly parts store and talk this over with the counter dude ---- he might even help you change the new starter for less than the regular mechanic would cost ----- for now clean the battery cables to battery and look under the hood for any corroded wires or loose connections.... be careful to don't short out a hot or "+" battery connection

Corroded battery teminals. Unbolt the cables ans spray anti corrosive battery terminal cleaner on them and then get some grease ans smear it around the contact points of the battery terminals (white grease or Non corrosive grease is best)
