Has anyone heard or had any experiences with inducing labor with ginger root tea? My mother in law made me this tea by boiling ginger root. You drink the water and supposibly it helps to induce labor. It worked for her, I'm wondering if anyone has tried this?

Nipple stimulation & rough sex are also old wives tales of how to induce labor.
If you really want to have the baby soon try all of them on the same day.
Good luck!

One of the methods of self-inducing labor that's been sweeping the internet in recent years is the myth that eggplant will start labor. This maternity myth started when a news story began circulating about a restaurant in Georgia named Scalini's. Apparently the mothers of over 300 babies have gone into labor in the past 23 years, within 48 hours of eating the eggplant parmegiana. The funny part is, it may just be that the dish causes the women to go into labor, but it's not the eggplant. The herbs Oregano and Basil have properties that may cause contractions, though it is not yet known how or in what quantities. This is why, in aromatherapy circles, these herbs and essential oils are to be avoided whenever possible during pregnancy.

I usually hear of ginger used by pregnant women to releave morning sickness. It's general property is a warming one, so I could potenially see it relaxing and warming up the muscles. There are other herbs that can be used to induce labor. However, they can be dangerous, and must be taken in very exacting amounts. I would strongly recommend waiting for the little one to come when she's ready - she'll know what works best for her. :)

Ginger in large quantities can bring on your period...so I would assume late in pregnancy it could induce labor.

My herbal book says that Ginger can increase your risk of hemorrhage postpatum if used within 1 hour of birth!!

My book recommends Evening Primrose oil for ripening the cervix, as well as black cohosh tincture and nipple stimulation.

And Blue cohosh for initiating labor...

I NEVER RECOMMEND USING HERBS WITHOUT PROPER GUIDANCE FROM SOMEONE WITH KNOWLEDGE OF HERBS AND HERBAL SUPPLEMENTS!!!

The book is Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Years by Suan Weed

I've had a few kids (well my wife did) and one thing seems to always work. Sand down a piece of funiture to be painted later. You wouldn't want to expose yourself to the fumes of paint but sanding it down doesn't hurt. I'm serious.
