You need Video out on your laptop.. Not every laptop supports this function.
This port is like the port on a external VGA card.
Plug the monitor cable in to that. And go to vga properties. and set the monitors you want.

Matrox does produce a dual head capability for laptops (not just the laptop screen and the one external monitor but two independent monitors).

You can get a video splitter if you want to connect two seperate monitors to your laptop. If you do this, you connect it to the video out jack on your laptop (on newer laptops) and press Ctrl>CRT/LCD. This will switch your laptop to the external port and send the video signal to the external jack. Hit the same buttons to switch back.

You know that cord u connent your screen to with ur reg desktop computer? Connect it too ur lap top too the screen instead of the desk top.
