Okay, a theatre group is doing the play High School Musical for a summer workshop and I need an audition song. I'm mainly auditioning for Sharpay and the only to song I can think of are Popular from Wicked and Amazing Mayzie from Seussical. Does anyone have any other ideas for both Gabriella and Sharpay?* Please let me know!

*By the way, I'm a soprano, but I can sing some mezzo and a little alto.

Also, I'm considering the songs Special or Mix Tape from Avenue Q

Well, I don't usually suggest pop songs, but because this show is very pop-influenced that's exactly what I would do. Something by one of the pop princess types would be good like Mandy Moore? Many songs can be song for either character, it just depends on the attitude you use while singing :-)

As for theatre songs, I do think Amazing Mayzie is a great choice for Sharpay. I wouldn't go with anything from Wicked as it's still considered overdone. My other musical theatre suggestions are:

Sharpay:
Don't Tell Mama - Cabaret
Let Me Entertain You - Gypsy
Go Into Your Dance - 42nd Street
I Want it Now - Charlie & Choc. Factory
When I Get My Name In Lights - The Boy From Oz
When You Got it, Flaunt It - The Producers
Mama I'm A Big Girl Now - Hairspray

Gabriella:
In My Own Little Corner - Cinderella
Somewhere That's Green - Little Shop (not sung campy, but sincerely)
Goodnight My Someone - Music Man
Waiting For Life - Once on This Island
Home - Beauty and the Beast
Ribbons Down My Back - Hello Dolly

Either:
I Want To Go To Hollywood - Grand Hotel

Good luck!!!

DO NOT sing Avenue Q it's a funny musical but in a audition it makes you seem trashy. If you want to play Sharpay I would recommend you sing Amazing Mayzie. It better fits the charter because they'er both vary "Show-offish" and Wicked is FAR too over done. Trust me directors are so sick of hearing Wicked that they may not listen as carefully as you want them too.

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/gJVMy

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

"My New Philosophy" from Charlie Brown (good for Sharpay)

"I Was Born To Entertain" (good for Sharpay)

"I'm Alone In the Universe" (Good for Gabriela)

"Shy" from Once Upon A Matress (Good for Both)

good luck!
