i always eat shredded wheat right before i leave the house to go to my meet. I don't know why but for me, it helps. I also would suggest not to drink gatorade right before you swim. It always makes me feel weird, and sometimes i even get sick. I've never heard about the Jello thing, I'm gunna have to try that. Have fun at your meet, and kick butt!

Raw Jello is bad. You want to maintain an even blood sugar level throughout the day, and the raw Jello gives you a brief high, and then you crash.
The meet nutrition should begin the night before with a low fat animal product (which gives protein) and a source of complex carbohydrates. I often have grilled (not fried) chicken breasts, sweet potatoes with olive oil and rosemary baked in the oven and whole wheat pasta. Whole wheat is always better than white because whole wheat give complex-carbohydrates.
The morning of the meat, I have 3 scrambled eggs and 2 slices of whole wheat toast. The breakfast should be subtantial as it will be your primary energy source for the meet.
During the course of the meet eat good snacks like peanut butter on whole wheat crackers, fruit, and lots of water. Gatorade is fine in moderation. You should have about 3 cups of water for every 1 cup of gatorade. I also like to eat the Chewy brand of granola bars at meets. I don't know if they're good, but they help me.
Finally, after a race your glycogen window is open for about 30 minutes. The glycogen window is when the body is most receptive to nutrients. During those 30 minutes, you need to replenish your body with carbohydrates and fluids. This should help you out. Swim fast.

There is no magic food to increase speed. Your training should involve proper nutrition to supplement your workouts. Your coach should have given you guidelines and you should be sticking to them. Without knowing your training regiment and taper plus metabolic rate and daily caloric intake it is almost impossible to make suggestions as to what you should eat.
Just remember to never try anything new on race day because you do not know the side affects. All nutritional changes should be tested during training to ensure they don't inihibit your performance or cause you to become ill.
Ask your coach for suggestiosn based on what your team's dietary guidelines are. if your team doesn't have any guidelines, suggest that your coach bring in a nutritionist or have some drawn up. Not having proper nutrition can wreak havoc on your training program and have massively negative effects on your performance. It can also hinder how far you go competitively. A balance of good nutrition and proper training is your best bet for the future, they feed off each other and are both necessary to ensure you reach your full athletic potential.
If you're interested in getting faster, check out what Rowdy Gaines has to say on the subject and try soem of his methods. After all, he WAS a gold medalist!

Carbs! Lots of Carbs! Try a small Peanut butter sandwich, or some trailmix, or nuts and fruits. Besure to drink plenty of water, Expecially if you eat something salty. You can also eat Powerbars or Protien bars. But besure to read the instrunctions and follow them, the effects of the Protein bars may not activate if you don't...

The best thing to eat before a swim meet is carbs, carbs, and more carbs!!! Try eating noodles, baked potatoes, rice, sandwitches, and bananas. Also, stick to water and an electrolyte-infused drink like Gatorade or Powerade.
Good luck at your meet!!!
