Dell would be a ripoff parts and service wise. HP is much better in those areas. Apple is also good although a little hippy in my opinion.

A good company to consider is Carbonfrost Systems. I can speak from experience when I say they have the best warranty and service. They will literally build it to whatever you want while keeping the price low. They have computers in all price ranges so you should be able to find one.

They are launching their laptops in couple of weeks, and their computers are actually better than all of those specs for the computers you would see in Dell, HP, Acer etc and is cheaper while thier parts are all name brand parts. Just a little info for you.

That spec you have above will get you a great deal with them.

I can't tell you what to do, but I would suggest reconsidering the laptop. Notebooks are great but they aren't all they are cracked up to be. I got a Dell Inspiron e1505 with upgrades last year for my freshman year in college. It is a halfway decent notebook, but once I got up there I found a lot of guys on my floor had incredible Desktops for several hundred dollars less. We are talking twice the memory, huge flat screens, some really nice looking stuff. If you are gonna go home every weekend then maybe a notebook is what you need. But I thought I "needed" a notebook my freshman year. I hardly ever moved it, and when I did take it home for the weekend it stayed in its case anyway. I would suggest asking another question on here about where to find desktop components. There are a lot of guys on here smarter then me that would pretty much tell you exactly what you needed, and then you order and put it together following instructions. I mean they come with mad cool stuff, like LED lights and clear housing. I would really advise against a out of the box laptop, I have been there done that.Good luck!

HP has several different types of laptops that are less that $1200. And HP is a very reliable brand and their customer service is excellent.
