Anything that can be accomplished with spanking can also be accomplished with words. I will never spank my kids, but my greatest fear is verbal abuse, which many parents have no problem displaying. Misused words can do more damage than any slap on the butt ever could...
Being a parent is a privilege, not a God-given right.

There is a fine line between punishment and abuse but I have always thought of it this way: If it leaves a mark, then its abuse but if you spank them over a diaper and pants, that won't hurt them or leave a mark, just scare them. Then tell them why you did that and they will learn that that behavior is not tolerated. I was spanked as I child and turned out normal and well rounded but it is all up to the parent. If you are not comfortable with it, don't do it.

I don't believe in spanking children as punishment. After all, we try and teacher children that hitting is not right, We have to role model what we want children to learn and to respect. By spanking children I think we show them that hitting is okay.
But this is just my opinion. I classify it as child abuse. There are other ways of getting children to comply to what is needed to be done. All children can be reasoned with.

personally i think that its not good because the only thing that people will learn is "id better not to that or I'll get spanked"
so i don't think that it really works and all it does is make kids feel worse about themselves, I'm not sure but try and find a way that can teach them a lesson, not just spanking, an event or treat. i hope i helped :]

I don't think all parents who spank are abusive. However, I'm against hitting. Everytime you strike a child you take away their self-worth. How can you expect them to grow up and give back to the world if they have the spirit beaten out of them?

its not abuse at all, kids need it, what we have now days is lack of Discipline, kids need it, i grew up in the 80's i was Disciplined for things that were needed, my parents never went over board. now if one does go over then yes abuse, but like the state of SC i think, look in stupidlaws.com for it, you can take your wife to the court house steps and beat her with a stick no bigger then your thumb (round that is) as long as you want it. and its legal, you should be able to do that with you kids, walmart should be the legal place of children Discipline.
