Is it true that every cigarette that you smoke takes away 10 mins of your life? My boyfriend told me thats what he heard but I was wondering if theres any facts that prove it. I know smoking does shorten your life but not sure if each individual cigarette really takes away 10 min. thanks a bunch ♥ ♥ ♥

I would believe that every cigarette takes away 10 minutes of your life.

I don't think that your body can repair the damage done by smoking.

Please go to a doctor and get the facts-- for sure.

My sister told me that too. 10 minutes a smoke. Once th damage has been done to your lungs theres no way to bring it back. Maybe have him ride a bike around the block for a while. He will be able to start breathing easier again. Sorry and Good luck.

Smoking makes your air passages smaller, So you don't get the right amount of air when your inhale. My adivce, QUIT THE SMOKING. Smoking also creates wrinkles up to 15 years early. Picture this: 30 year old man looking almost 50. That would be a bad turn out.

No your lungs can't improve because each cigarette you smoke dumps half of tar onto your lungs and gets them weaker and blacker. I'm not sure if each cancer stick you smoke takes away ten minutes of your life or not.

yeah i think that's true...although i think it's 5 minutes not 10.

also if you're pregnant and smoke...one cigarette stops the baby breathing for 20 minutes!

your boyfriend should try quitting...i know it's easier said than done but there's loads of stuff these days such as patches, hypnotism and all sorts!! good luck xx

His lungs should improve over time, as long as he doesn't do it again, but no, they will never truly recover.. And cigarettes still do shorten your life, whether it's ten minutes or ten years.

"Each time a smoker lights up, that single cigarette takes about 5 to 20 minutes off the person's life."

I don't know if that a scientific number, but cigarette smoking is the worst thing you can do to your body, short of lying down on the freeway.

I don't know if that exact number is correct, but I do know it is a chance I would not want to take. Smoking is a horrible, awful, extremely addictive, horrible smelling, silent killer.
