I want to get a motorcycle. I have a home in Dallas and go to college at Texas A&M University which is about 200 miles south of Dallas so I was wondering if there is a significant difference in gas mileage between cruiser and sport bike models.

Cruisers are more geared twords comfort they are not excessively fast (Usually) These bikes are more useful for long trips so their gas tanks are usually larger and can carry more gas. The sport models are faster and lighter and usually have smaller tanks, Overall though the cruiser usually ends up eating more gas due to the weight and the tork it pumps out. Though if you are moving at an excessive speed on the sports bike it can end up with just as high of an intake of gas.

Its less about style and more about weight and engine size. A Ninja 250 is a fantastic bike. It has a 250cc engine and will get you to 100mph if you want it too. It gets about 60-70mog.

Another fantastic bike is the Suzuki S40. This one is a cruiser style. It weighs about the same and gets almost as good milage as the Ninja 250. Its a 650cc engine but it only has one cylinder.

Triumph makes incredible motorcycles. The only thing Triumph doesn't excell at is making good beginners bikes. Don't get a Triumph as a first bike, if you are already an expierenced rider then they are a mighty fine bike.
There is more to take into consideration than sports bike and cruiser.

Look at the Ninja 250, Suzuki S40 and the Buell Blast if you want fantastic milage. Other than that don't worry about it. As long as its not excessivly large or being drive excessivly fast you will be spend about the same on gas.

Buy a Triumph America! It's heart is a sport bike ,but it has been designed more like a cruiser. I've owned many Jap bikes and Harleys over the years ( I love ALL bikes, and have for 50 years ). I own a Harley still, but the Triumph is the best motorcycle I've ever owned! Fast, stylish, nimble, yet cruises beautifully, and gets around 58mpg on the highway ( 800cc ). Tremendous fun. Safe ( as can be ) and responsive in traffic. Fantastic brakes. Hope this helps. Have fun.

A cruiser usually has more weight so it will be a little less than a sport bike.

However the sportbike tend to make you twist a little more,

So I guess about the same depending on how you drive.

the difference is in your right hand.sports use a bit more when reved, cruisers are heavier,so they use gas too.if you are a good rider go with the sport,if you need to pass or get out of some fools way,its at your fingertips. drive as if you are invisable, and everyone out there is crazy and out to get you, good luck.

I get 45 mpg on my Harley average about 70 mph. If I slow it down to 50 to 55 I can get 50 mpg.
