Long story short (I am 17 now being a senior in highschool this fall. My sister is 18 going to a 40k a year school next fall), well my dad had an affairs with lots of women during the last 10ish years, and things with him has never been good since. He is an airline caption who makes quite a lump sum of money a year (120k+) or something, but he never does anything right. My mom has one credit card of his she uses for groceries and all, and now it doesn't appear to work, and now checks are bouncing left and right, but he doesnt care. He won't even want to help my sister for college, and i still have another year of private school and college also. Wait so if my mom files for divorce we don't get much, unless my Dad files for it (they're still married). Well is there ANY way we can get money out of him. He is a pathological lier, immature, and abusive. He needs to help out family. Is there anyway a lawyer, attorneym or anything we can do? Thanks.

Nothing y ou can do until they file for divorce and then petition for Child SUpport and it would be only for those at the age 18 and under, living at home and in school.

If the divorce happens, I am at loss as to why you want this guy hanginig around if he is as mucha loser as you say. Think about cutting your losses and run now, move on!

it sounds like your father has scammed your mom for years, she could have gotten a lot more then grocery money and bill payment had she divorced him sooner.

Your mom should talk to a lawyer while you are still under age, he might even have to pay child support for your sister in college until she is 24 (depends on the state.) She will be given the house, especially if he doesn't live there.

Many people in the Airline industry live two lives. One is that when they are flying. Their is a code to keep things from others, and it so just so damn easy!

Seems like you are going to a private school. Who pays for that.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, parents, no matter how much money they have, are NOR REQUIRED to support you or your $40,000 a year University. Once you are 18 you are an adult and you are on your own!

Get a student loan and the GI Bill like I did! My parents didn't pay for my education. Not one damn dime!

He's a dead beat father, and should have been paying child support for all of you until you were 18 or 21 depending on your state. As far as college is concerned, he doesn't have to pay for it, If you want to go bad enough you'll get a job and put yourself through, it's time to except some responsibility for your self.

sorry to hear about your family difficulties but the familial responsibility for your education ends legally, when you become an adult. It really does. Thats why there are student loans.

Personally i'd like to see student loan repayment based on grades so that you can earn you own scholarship by doing well in school, but that seems to be an idea before its time

private schools and 40K/k college??? Ever think that maybe its time to switch to public? Not everyone is as lucky as you were to get even that.

And some of us had to pay our own way through college, and I dont mean just school....I mean all living expenses...

just be grateful for what you got, some dads a jerks and dont know what theyre doing even after all this time

Paying for college is one thing but I would be damned if I would sit still for him paying for and all. Anyway, your story is a good one but not likely true. who do you think on here can help you?

No, it's his money and his right to mismanage it as he sees fit. I don't, by any means, think that he is doing the right thing, but he hasn't done anything illegal.
