Yes, advanced placement courses, good grades, take the pre-SAT's so you can get a good SAT score, make sure you take at least 3 years of foreign language to be safe. Check out schools during your junior year to find a few possibilities, apply early to at least 2 or 3 so you have a fall back plan in case one doesn't work out.

If you want to get scholarships to pay for school, do all of the above, plus join student government and/or clubs. Earn community service hours, and be able to demonstrate leadership skills.

Good luck!

This is good for any college or university. Start by preparing yourself mentally and intellectually. They are not the same thing. A lot of young people fail at the college level because they are not mentally prepared for the many challenges of college. The classes are harder, you may be out on your own for the first time away from your family, leaving your friends behind and making new ones, and a lot of high school graduates have no idea how to study. The intellectual part is having the best grades that you can, have good scores in the standardized testing and give yourself an edge. There are a lot of students applying, so what will make you stand out from the crowd in a positive way. Some other things are simple but they make a big difference. Don't wait for the last minute to apply. Make sure your forms are complete and accurate. Know ahead of time what you will be required to provide so that everything is in order. Even a local community college can have numerous forms and paperwork that has to be done for them to consider your application. Stay on top of things and you should do well. Good luck!
