It's funny. Whenever I feel like I'm in a friendship (especially with a member of the opposite sex) I get so excited feeling like FINALLY I've found a guy I can truly have a friendship with..... a real, true "unconditional" friendship. You know.... where you can say and do anything that is truly "YOU" without worry of being judged or misunderstood. But even if you were, such a bond exists that you would sit and talk about it until it was all straightened out. No lies, no secrets, no worries. No conditions that make you worry that in the blink of a moment you might lose the friendship.

But inevitably...... conditions are put on me.

"I want to be your friend, but I don't want to have to ____" (insert blank).

2. "You are my best friend but can you also give me _____"

3. "You need to do this if you are going to be my friend, but never ask me to __________"

I think men THINK they would love having a "friendship" with a girl.... one where no strings or expectations are placed upon either of them. But if the girl agrees to this, the guy almost feels like something is wrong that she isn't "wanting" him..... so he asks for more only to get upset if she's willing to go over and beyond friendship. *throws hands up* I get so confused that I wanna scream..... "are we friends or not?"

Love seems to be "conditional" as well. I don't understand the "I will love you until you screw up" mentality. If you love this person, wouldn't you still love them enough to help them when they probably need it most? *sigh*

Love and friendship should soooo be unconditional. But unfortunately..... whether it be changes in our society.... changes in our expectations..... too many conditions are placed on us all. *sigh* :(

NOTHING on this earth is unconditional..there are things that SHOULD be and there are things that often are (like a mother's love - but not even that sometimes sadly to say)

To me friendship should not necessarily be unconditional - maybe not even love - people can do some pretty heinous things to each other in this day and age. There are always exception. Love has to be nurtured and respected - so does friendship. If someone is abusing that love and friendship after awhile love wanes and friendships can end.

In a perfect world, yeah...friendship and love should be unconditional. But we're not in a perfect world and we're not perfect people. Friendship and love in this day and age is a matter of self-indulgence. We seek friendship and love by means of thinking how this will benefit us and only ourselves, for that matter.

i might quite settle for unconditional friendship. In conditional love you're the two extra of puppets attempting to be happy on situations, no longer willingly, and it sucks believe me!

They could be, but don't expect unconditional anything unless you really work for it, even still, things could very well fall through.

No. Your bags are out the door, and I hate you. One would hope so, but you know it isn't true in the fields of love and friendship. Love is just too fickle an item.

they SHOULD be, but unfortunately they are not. here is proof.

1 in 2 people get divorced.
8 of 10 people break up friendships with in 3 years time.
sad, but true. GOD Speed...

That all depends on the friend or the lover. If they give you their love or friendship unconditionally.

unfortunately, and i hate to be cynical, but nothing in life is unconditional, no matter how much people try to convince you otherwise.
