They keep saying that September is sort of a deadline to see if the surge is effective in Iraq. But most people are already saying that it is not working.

Should we wait and see?

Or look to send even more troops to try and control the situation?

The way I see it, we either need to get out of Iraq or make an increased committment in every area to try to win.

What do you think?

sure, lets send even more citizens over there to die for our future rights to oil. We really have no other interest in the middle east at all and would not have much to do with them at all if it were not for oil. Iraq is in a state of civil war and we can really do nothing from here except to withdraw and let go of the situation in hopes that it will work itself out. Or, continue our intervention as unwanted crusaders in a land where we are not wanted and doing no good for anyone involved including ourselves.

It is not up to military force to see peace in Iraq. Military force is the buffer between the government and the insurgents. It is up to the Iraqi government to get there act together and fix the things that each of the sects has a problem with. I would almost be willing to bet money that the second we pulled a large amount of troops out the government would come together and actually start being a government instead of bickering morons (at least they are bickering morons if they even decide to show). After all, like most leaders they don't mind watching others die but they probably wouldn't want to be the martyr for there cause, that's just being stupid.

I think the very next two people we should send to fight in Iraq are GW Bush's daughters. Once they are there and have seen some combat, then I am ok sending every soldier we have over there with the ultimate goal of making Iraq the 51st state so we don't have to worry anymore about "foreign" oil.

The surge may not be working, and we may need to switch tactics, because too many men and women are dying in Iraq; American, Iraqi, Muslim, Christian, Jewish, white, black, etc.

In the words of General George S. Patton:

"Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

and also:

"May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't."

We need to send a message to the Islamic extremists that unless we can come up with a peaceful resolution to the war, we will continue to fight against them and eventually beat them into submission.

No. More troops will not solve the problem.

What military strategy does 'more troops' entail?

I think Bush is a dismal failure who's ego means more to him than the human lives his strategies have ended and continues to do so.

The first thing you should do when you find yourself in a hole is - stop digging. And certainly don't dig faster.

The real problem was that we withdrew too many of them to soon.
