I have tried running a cd to clean the player but it to gets ejected after the player has tried to read it. I have tried both original cds and burned cds but neither one is accepted and i get the same error. Do i need a new cd player?

Sorry, I think this sounds like your CD player's really dead. Besides doing what you've done, nobody repairs CD players these days.

Looks like you'll need to look for a new player. BMW units that would fit your car are way overpriced and are technologically obsolete now. Best place to look is eBay. But...

... look at the bright side of things - this is your chance to put in a neat aftermarket unit with much more features than that mundane Business CD player yet costing less!

Go to www.crutchfield.com or call them directly to speak to their techs. They can supply you with a new faceplate and harness that would enable a stand DIN sized headunit to be fitted to your E39.

If you chose a Blaupunkt unit, I believe they even have a steering wheel control interface that would continue to allow you to use your steering wheel radio buttons.

Imagine now you can add MP3, WAV, XM, Sirius, USB, SD iPod even DVD video, GPS nav, rearview camera via a flip up LCD headunit in your BMW!

It's because your car hasn't been "burned". I'm guessing that your husband's truck (let's not forget the apsotrophy next time aye?) has at least had a cigarette burn on the seat or two, and that's why the CDs work fine in his jaloppy. Set fire to your car and you can disco dance whilst dropping the kids off at school for the next thirty to fourty millenia.
