The group velocity of different wavelengths of light is different in glass, meaning that the index of refraction is wavelength dependent, meaning the different frequencies undergo different deflections through the prism. (Snell's law)

electromagnetic waves have the same velocity, which is the speed of light... BUT they have different wavelengths; for example: light is composed of electromagnetic waves which we see and define as red, green, red..etc..

also remember that the prism has a different density. this is the main reason why prisms disperse white light... different wavelengths deflect on different paths...

white light is a mixtute of various colours/ wavelengths and the refractive index of prism material(glass) is different for different wavelengths
