They are saying now that Scooter Libby will have to report to prison in about eight weeks, unless he is pardoned.

Will President Bush pardon him?

I think he will. But he will wait for a moment in the next eight weeks where he can do it while there is some other big news story to overshawdow it. You often see things like this done. Decisions, firings, things like that happen either on holidays or during other big news stories to distract viewers from the situation.

So, I see Libby getting pardoned at some point.

What do you think?

Sure, President Bush could wait until his last day in office to pardon Libby. But Libby would have been in Jail for over a year by then. Bush needs to think about pardoning him NOW.

Why not, he's a lame duck.

It would very much surprise me though - he'd just be cementing a Dem president then. I don't think he could do it without someone catching onto it. I'll pay close attention to the Saturday papers though :)

I honestly think he looks at himself as a king or at least a ruler. He feels he is free of any law that he was assigned to protect and feels his friends should be treated the same. He thinks he can expand globally without fail or care , expanding US ideals much like an old world King. I really believe he wants a tolitarian government. One that would disband both the Judicial and Legislative Branches and give him absolute power. The best proof in this? He wages physical, economic and political wars on countries who currently employed this idea, though most have changed since the wars ( i.e Iraq, North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan) He wants a country like pre-war Iraq, one where the ruler is of total control and unquestioned. A man like this is a massive threat to global security. We are truly dealing with a madman who could easily bring us to total annihilation with the stroke of his hand. Right now Russia has begun its ICBM program which was halted in the mid 90s through the START II Treaty. The reason being ? Because Bush is carrying through his Missile Defense Shield Program throughout West Europe. Incase you haven't noticed? This is how the Cold War began over 50 years ago. If this doesn't stop quickly, we will re-enter the Cold War, only this time against much more enemies.

I don't know. Scooter got himself into this and dug himself pretty deep.

His defense was confusing and illiterate and led the jurors to believe there was a crime committed by him in leaking Valerie Plame's name, when no such crime was committed by him in the first place. His defense brought discredit to the Vice President and the White House when there was no reason to do so, since no crime had been committed.

Scooter is going to jail because Scooter is an idiot. But that should not be a criminal offense is the only problem I have with that. Any lawyer worth his salt would get himself new defense counsel and start the appeals process all over again. It is obvious from the exit interviews the jurors gave they did not have a clear understanding of the case and should have cleared Scooter. But Scooter's lawyer and his entire defense was about "I am a scapegoat for an administration [that did nothing wrong]." That confused the jury to convict and is getting Scooter sent to jail.

Bush owes this man nothing.

But the prison sentence is merely a political statement. In reality, Scooter's sentence is completely bogus, but Scooter dug this hole himself, and Bush owes this man nothing.

How long is Libby in jail? Could he be pardoned on January 19, 2009, right before President Bush leaves office?

Hopefully you're wrong and Libby sits his lying back side in jail for his full term, it would teach the right to have more respect for the law, they sure don't seem to respect the Constitution or the rule of law right now

I think he will pardon him and rightfully so, and I think it will happen whenever it needs to happen as the liberal news media will not let this slide with some other news story. It will be another Bush bashing!

I don't think so. I think he will do what Clinton did and pardon his buddies after the 2008 election while he is a lame duck.

He should considering he's not guilty. Here's a couple of links on that situation and both are liberal news organizations.
