1 of my koi's swam into the filter, and its top fin ripped off, its alive, but wil its fin grow back?

it should do, but watch out for any infection.

The fin should eventually grow back, but you need to keep a look out for Fungal or Bacterial infection. Your fish shop will stock treatments for these problems.

Get a bottle of stress coat and put that in the water for about a week, normally every other day is good. It might not grow back fully but the stresscoat will help a lot and keep anything from getting in the cut.

My angle fish had the same problem but the only difference was that his fin riped in half I managed to fix it by adding Anti Internal Bacteria and Aquarium salt.

yes just make sure it dosent get fin rot if it does and the infection gets to the base or the fin the fin wont ever grow back
so trake really good care of it

It should, maybe not perfectly, but it should grow back. Make sure it does not get infected.

Is there anything you can do to "pad" that filter so the next fish that runs into it will not get hurt?
