I think having her come home unexpectedly and you have allready cooked a dinner to have with candles at the table, with a fancy tablecloth. Maybe some light soft music. And roses for her. Maybe leave petals on the floor leading her to the kitchen or bedroom. A nice card with a lot of hand written sweetness would be nice of much you appreciate, love and care for her. She'll love being flattered with tons of attention. I wish my boyfriend would once do something special like that for me. It's a good idea and the thought will mean more than anything you give her.

A place that requires good clothes, has great food and intimate booths, not just tables and where you are hearing kids crying all night long. Perhaps start with a drink at one place, then dinner at another, and finally dessert of drinks at another place, where there is music and dancing. A good drive by the beach or lake or river after this would make it all perfect, add in a card or a small present, what could be better?

Go on a picnic
If there is a lake around, go get take-out and take it to the Lake.
Do something you haven't done in a while- like go to a Carnival.
Re-create your first date.
Rent old romantic movies, get take-out, get rid of the kids and reminisce about old times.
Congrats on the 12 years! That seems rare now days.

My favorite - it is cheap and very easy.
Materials:
Blanket
Cheap plastic wine glasses
Fun cereal - with sugar
Juice of your picking
A secluded place in a park, beach, or what ever - just enjoy the stars, talk, and if your very sure about your seclusion - have fun. It was one of my favorite dates - except my husband and I didn't know that the park closed at dark and a cop showed up - luckily we were just enjoying eachothers company - not having too much fun - but we still talk about it 3 years later.

Borrow a friend's convertible, make up a picnic lunch. Find some of the songs you listened to when you were dating, and burn a CD to listen to on the way to the picnic....
Check into a nice hotel, bring champagne....the rest you can figure out for yourself.

After 12 years, I order pizza and we watch TV and make the kids go to their room. We like to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeapordy.
