Can such extreme partisanship do anything but harm?

Yes, but that's a 'step 3' solution.

Acceptance and compromise come AFTER better education.

It's hard to ask ignorant, insecure people to accept anything or to use compromise techniques.

As long as there is religion and conservatives(redundant much?), there will always be issues of differences and compromise.

Look at Christianity. It used to be a belief, but now there are people in the govt. who interpret the bible as if it is FACT. These are the people deciding on the laws that are best for us, but not all of us believe in the bible. The problem is, the bible makes non-negotiable claims about the science and humanity. So, until we rid that crap from our society, particularly our political system, we as a whole will never be tolerant of accepting of peoples differences. You can't compromise with somebody who claims to know the word of god. The fairy tales have already made up their mind for them. Hopefully, we'll breed out most of these people over the next few generations and we can devote our attention to more pressing issues.

i think there has been plenty of compromising,the liberals just cant seem to keep taking. some issue just will not be compromised.
