Manual shift are SOMETIMES cheaper. Other times you'll find in sports cars they are priced equal or even higher than automatic. It is what the market will bear (what the people are willing to pay).
Manual gearbox allows the driver more control over the gear selection at any given time. Ex: a driver may choose to leave the gear and rev the engine higher in anticipation of something coming up. Or the driver can shift in anticipation so that when the driver slams the throttle, it is accelerating (instead of taking another 1/2 second to shift then accelerate).
Also if the driver is just cruising at fairly steady speed on the HWY, leaving in top gear saves some gas.

I have a 1.9 litre turbo diesel injection (manual gearbox) and I expect to be able to get over 50mpg urban and anything up to 80mpg on longer journeys, as measured by the car's computer. I am sure this is not possible with an automatic (as driven by old ladies in England). Petrol (and diesel) is just under 2 dollars per litre over here, so it's worth driving economically.

B) a manual gives feel of the car and concentration is required whereas in an automatic concentration can easily be lost cos its just like driving a go-kart! and C) if you get your license in an automatic then thats all you can drive, if you pass in a manual, you can drive both!

With a manual it feels much more like you are driving your car. With an automatic you just mash your foot and point it. If you really want to control your automobile, go with manual. Automatics are for the old and weak.

The manual shift is cheaper and gets better gas mileage normally. Automatics are normal these days. They have improved over the years and now are nearly as good as the manual. Some people even say better. good luck

Manual shift cars are cheaper and get better mileage (if driven correctly) than automatics THOUGH automatics are quickly catching up to manual. Gas is horrendously expensive in Europe.
