i am a scorekeeper. here is the exact situation:

one out, bases loaded, Ramirez on first, Jones batting. Jones hits a hard line drive to the right side of the field, and it hits Ramirez about 1/3 of the way to second.

(by the way, DeRosa hit a grand slam on the next at bat. GO CUBS!!!)

If the runner gets hit by the batted ball in front of the second baseman than he is out and the hitter is given a single and awarded first base. the other runners must return to the base they occupied before the play. If the base runner gets hit by the ball but is behind the fielder the runner is not out and the play will continue. Therefore, if the runner is out the putout is given to the defensive player closest to the play and would be scored (4U) second base unassisted.

If the ball hits the runner before any nearby infielder had a chance to make a play, the runner is out, the ball is dead, the batter is credited a single, and no runners advance (unless forced by the batter-runner; in this case, not). Second out, bases still full, play resumes. Putout credited to the nearest fielder.

If the ball has already gone past every infielder who could reasonably have made a play, the ball is live, the runner is not out, and play resumes. Be quick, because runs are a'gonna score!

That all depends on the situation if the runner is hit by a batter ball that has not been touched or by a fielder the batter is give a hit and the runner is out and the out goes to closest fielder to the runner. If the Runner is hit by a batted ball that goes by a or is touched by a fielder then it scored according
to what happened to the batter.I know my boyfriend is an umpire and I am a scorekeeper.

If the runner is called out for interference, credit the put out to the fielder nearest the interference and credit the batter with a single.

i don;t exactly know but I'm guessing draw a line to where the baserunner stopped. ie 2nd base. The runner is out, the batter is credited with a hit.

If the umpire calls the batter out, then, batter is out, putout goes to the nearest fielder, and batter gets credit for a hit if he reaches base.
