I would say the only real contenders from that list are; Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Nirvana.
Since Alice in Chains were from the grunge era, but only made one (two if you stretch it) grunge albums, I wouldn't really consider them apt.
Soundgarden, though a good band in their own respect, aren't really grunge.
Pearl Jam released three grunge albums in the early 90s, but past that, branched off into other genres of alternative rock. Pearl Jam is my favorite band from the list, but they didn't remain strictly grunge, so I have to defer.
I would have to give it to Nirvana as being the best "GRUNGE" band from this list. Nevermind was a good album, and In Utero was better. Although, Nirvana stole directly from the Meat Puppets and quoted the Pixies as being "the reason that Nirvana exists," I would rate both the Meat Puppets and the Pixies as better grunge bands.

I would kind of say that despite starting out as a grunge band Nirvana ended as something that wouldn't be necessarily be described as grunge, and Pearl Jam I don't really think of as a grunge band. Just sort of lumped in by association with the scene. With that in mind I would say Alice in Chains. I think Nirvana was the best of the grouping, although I was probably a bigger Alice in Chains fan at the time.

Alice in Chains but really its a matter of opinion. You can take 3, 5 and 6 completely off that list as even an option. :P

Grunge - Pearl Jam. I think from the list of bands that they fit that category the best.

I really liked soundgarden, but they did not last that long. out of your list, I will vote for pearl jam. I don't think creed should be in the list...you may as well include hole.

I have got to say either Alice in Chains or Creed. Creed gets more publicity like when Chris Daughtry sang "What If" and absoutely took the watchers by storm but Alice in Chains always gets me going and it never gets old.
