Not unless you have a corrupt and oppressive government like many African & Middle Eastern nations are burdened with. Otherwise, a country is only as good as the sum of it's population. A government should be a limited regulator and protector of freedoms, but otherwise, life is (or should be), up to an individual to live. If you think about most of the worlds problems, they stem from lack of individual responsibility and/or respect.

No, not everything, but the problems people face can be easily associated with the government.
The problem is governments have to make decisions based upon weighing out the gains an losses of implementing a policy. Often you will hear much more about the people who are losing out from a government decision rather than those who benefit, even if those who benefit are in the majority.
People love to complain!

They`re responsible fo the state of the nation .New Labour under Blair and Brown have been proven to be the most corrupt Govt we`ve had in a long time.
I`m sure Blair is trying to make the country like George Orwell`s "1984" A police state.
We`ve been promised referendums on europe, what happened to them.
New Labour is another term for Dictatorship "Tony Rules"

Well, let's see. This morning's newspaper had no less than 6 instances wherein the government claimed that "it can't". It can't deport 12 million illegal aliens. It can't enforce our laws. It can't solve the Iraq problem. It can't -- It can't. We've heard so much about what the government can't do, we're beginning to wonder what it can do and we suspect there is very little at this point. Congress's approval rating was said to be 23% on this morning's news and the President's was 29%. That means, to me at least, that more than 2/3rds of the citizens are unhappy with their government and that it only takes 2/3rds of the citizens to invalidate the government. So, since the government is not doing the people's bidding, as it was elected to do, then the government is the big, bad evil guys! The only thing misssing is that the people should take action to formally press the government to do its job.

We are all to blame. We vote or dont vote these people into office. While it may be true that they are influenced by the rich when making legislation, poor and middle class people far outnumber the rich across the globe. We have much more power than they do, we have to hold their feet to the fire, so to speak. We cant blame anyone but ourselves for the conditions we live in. Sometimes I think people are just afraid to admit to themselves that they have such a great civic responsibility, but I also realize that we all live in a society centered around the institution of money. Unfortunately, even if everyone wanted to take a stand and become more involved in their communities and their futures, we wouldnt be able to take time off of work.........

the government is not to blame for everything, many times it acts out of demands of the people, or the group making the most noise at the time. It is the silent majority that is to blame for a lot of things that happen in the government, because they fail to make their wants, needs, or feelings known, and as said before the sweeky wheel gets the grease. We then sit back and complain about an action taken that we never took the time to get involved in, until after it was to late.

No, but we do get the government we deserve. A good example is re-electing Bush even though he was already on the nose by then. Too many people didn't vote because they felt they could not influence the outcome. An idea loved by politicians.
Governments are often restricted in what they can achieve by events outside their control, such as a world wide depression, unexpected conflicts etc.

It's the influence of rich people on the govt. to keep rich people rich. War, immigration, health care practices, and even the big letdown on the war on drugs keep rich people rich. The govt. is just manipulated by the money. We didn't have an American civil War to free the slaves. It was so that the freed slaves could fill in industrial jobs up north. I'm sure glad we the government didn't have to frame mexicans for 9/11 to politically control Mexico. America acts on resources - any type of resources. America was built on tobacco and cotton, we just needed a different resource to pick it.

Government takes away personal power from the individual and makes decisions for him or her. And ultimately, all governments are based on violence.
