Because it is an outward manifestation of a commitment between the couple.
One very telling statistic, is why does the divorce rate double when couples who have lived together decide to get married? The reason is simple, because marriage is different than living together. If they were the same, then the divorce rate for couples who live together then get married would be 0%. But in fact, it's 85%! Wow! If that piece of paper is meaningless, please explain that true to life statistic.

For the record, my hubby and I have always been faithful and honest. Getting married is a real responsiblity in the commitment to the person you are married to. That is how I see it. Now with the disposable generation, it they don't like it they just throw it away. There are too many people that make bad decisions when it comes to marriage, having children with out a stable mom and dad. Not everyone is this way, but I see more that are, than the other way around.

Marriage is something you do when you find someone that you love deeper then anyone else in the world. You'd even die for them if it meant saving their life. A meeting of the souls. You shouldn't get married unless you find someone who is nothing short of spectacular. I will tell you this for certain....It's not someone you can live with but it's someone you couldn't imagine living a day without.
Marriage is a forever unity- after you're married then comes children...and your legacy continues. You *SHOULD* be MARRIED when you have kids. It's a moral thing...in my christan background. Wouldn't you want your children to have YOUR last name? Marriage is more then a piece of paper for those who UNDERSTAND it's true meaning. Think about it!?

The law says you do! If you respect the person you are in a relationship with, you would honor that piece of paper and do what's legally right. the paper doesn't show that you are in a relationship, it shows that you are in a committed relationship.

True...and based on most of the questions here.....my boyfriend and I are more "solid" than all these cheaters and liars anyway....geez.....
And secondly, on one hand they will spout off on how sacred it is, but in the next breath talk about all the tax and health insurance benefits you get.....LOL!!!!!!!

Marriage is a fine institution, and an institution is where it belongs. It really depends on if you believe in God, and what the bible has to say about living in sin.
