well, they put 3 engines in the Sunfires.

2.2l
2.2l ecotec
2.4l quad 4

i personally would swap it out for the 2.2l ecotec. the aftermarket is huge for these, plus if you find a wrecked Cobalt SS thats already a superchared motor.

good luck

numerous the sunlight fires got here with the two.2L 4 cylinder engines yet some did comprise the three.1L V6 the older ones like 1987 to approximately 1990 got here with the smaller 2.8L V6. I used to artwork on vehicles as a summer season activity and that i did see some sunfires with the three.1L in them yet they the place all 3 speeds. yet besides i does not complication approximately it the three.1L is an exceedingly reliable little engine the only actual issues are the coil packs and the ICM going undesirable yet they only bypass undesirable if the engine is particularly grimy. and whether the coil packs or the ICM bypass undesirable its nevertheless low-priced adequate to swap. the three.1L the two cam with the three speed vehicle or the 5 speed handbook in later years you additionally can get it with the 4 speed vehicle. the way which you would be able to tell a 4 cylinder sunfire from a six cylinder is via observing the muffler the V6 sunfires have 2 exhaust pipes popping out of the muffler and the 4 cylinder sunfires have a unmarried out permit. I honestly have a 1993 Grand Prix with the three.1L with the 4 speed vehicle and that's enormously rapid. the engine has a hundred and forty HP and a hundred and eighty foot pounds of torque on your vehicle yet in mine it has one hundred fifty five HP and 185 foot pounds of torque. i might additionally swap to guy made oil it maid a huge distinction interior the vehicles capability and it more desirable the gasoline financial equipment to no longer point out that the interior my engine is now spotlessly sparkling.

well I owned a 1993 Oldsmobile achieve which had a 2.3 liter quad 4 but it was a W41 which had a different head, cams, and fuel injectors. with these differnt parts it put out 180 hp from the factory and if you had a 1992 or 1991 it put out 190 from the factory. well when my brother hydro locked my engine a friend bought the car off of me for the 5sp transmission and the engine and he put it into a 97 sunfire and it is pretty fast, a lot faster then my car cause the sunfires are a lot lighter. so I would recommend the w41 quad 4 a little hard to find but well worth it. you wont be sorry.

Check the bolt pattern of the engine mounts, see it you have enough meat to drill into change motors. Engine mounts will be the problem. Think top half, meaning headers, what could be the most beneficial manifold, carb and maybe a supercharger,(Paxton etc...), spark advance (morso and there are others)
2.2 can not handle much, get a '70's Cuda...or a 60' Ford or Chevy... IT IS ALL about engine compression
if you want muscle... get muscle
'98 cars were lesser than... '77 TA with the original 11:0/1 or the FORMULA the last OLD's 400 ... was the last... nice... kid... hit the books kid don't waste the money...

I would build up the engine you already have. There should be plenty of after market parts that will add horsepower to that motor.
