When you're twelve it's part of the growing process to feel lonely and lost, if you recall everything in your life starts to change from hormones down to responsibility. Yes, I would chat with a twelve year old in person, the way I do on-line because I would say the same thing...I wouldn't give them derogatory advice or information.

No; I think the fact that we have a degree of anomynity means we can talk about whatever we want without the fear of being shot down or judged by our ages or backrounds. There are probably teenagers in the Philosophy section who are Top Contributers, and no one knows it. If they were to spout these opinions in public, you would be laughed off because you're too young or immature. Y!A is obviously the great equalizer.

Only if I work with them or they are related to me!

I know they seem lost, but that's why their parents need to make time to talk to them.

When one tries to help other people's children; it can be misinterpreted as trying to get inappropriately close to a child- unfortunately there are too many pervs out there to trust anyone!

Just look at some of the teachers that have been caught getting way too close to their students.
It makes us adults all look bad.

That's why I only talk to my child's friends at a distance & help out when I can & at a distance!

Probably not. They generally hang with their peers and classmates. I hang with my friends and co-workers. Their ages range from 18 to 78 I'm not aware of talking to a 12 year old on this site.

i don't know the ages of the people here most of the time, i don't really think about it much. i would chat with younger people if i was around them. i actually work with a lot of people between 17 and 20, and i am 29. i can still relate to younger people, as i am mentally about 14. hey think young, stay young!

NO way, I wouldn't atlk to a child except for a friends kid about school. At that age I was always outside playing, riding my bike or chasing the ice cream man. It sure is different now.

They are lonely and lost. I had a 12 year old trying to talk to me, I told him it wasn't appropriate for us to talk and that his Mom wouldn't approve of us chatting, he said Mom was never home, she worked some night club at night and she told him to get on Answers for information about stuff...........so either he was lying or that is really really sad!

No way, I would be talking to them the way I would like for them to talk to me in a polite manner.
