my mil has an above ground pool with that plastic/rubber type liner. this winter she let it get really dirty(i mean there's leaves all over, it and the alges pretty bad). my husband and i would like to be able to use it. yesturday we emptyed it out, and today i'm going to get all the debre out of the bottom. i was wondering what kind of cleaners can you use to get the sides clean? like algee removers? can you use household ones, like the kind for cleaning bathtubs and showers? or would that be bad for the lining?
thanks-Juli

it would be a very good idea to vacuum the pool and then afterwards shock it (dump in more chlorine than needed) If the water is green that could mean that there is too much minerals in the water or metal. If you get your water tested and the store recommends something called "crystal coat" do not let them talk you into it. Believe me, this messed up our pool water for months. If the problem is just algae, there definitely has not been enough chlorine in the pool and isn't safe to swim in. Vacuum and shock it first, then see how it is. As for scrubbing the liner soap and household chemicals won't harm the liner but is bad for the PH of your water. Whatever you do, do not use them. Simply scrubbing it with a wash cloth and warm water should do the trick.

First off, you should have cleaned it immediately!
Letting the liner sit without water will cause it to shrink and when you go to fill it, it may rip. Pool experts have told us this.

We had the same problem and what we did is used a pool liner cleaner called "off the wall" and used elbow grease. Soft bristle brush.
You can also use Grease Lightning, but needs to be rinsed off well.

Then we took a shop vac, and ever so gently vacuumed the bottom. The shop vac was on the outside of the pool and had someone there to empty it while we were inside with a hose sweeping everything to the shop vac.

Hope your liner is not ruined.

When it comes to cleaning vinyl pool liners, never use sharp objects or abrasive cleaning agents . Also never use any product with bleach. Only use cleaning methods recommended by your pool lining manufacturer.

This works well ~

Once you get the pool up and running, it s almost more important with a vinyl pool to keep the chemicals balanced.

Happy swimming!
