I am working on a deal for a 1989 Honda GB500 Tourist Trophy motorcycle with 9000 miles on it. I am trading a '95 Ford pickup that is worth $3000.00. I know this bike is rare and collectible. Kelley Blue Book lists the retail at $3865 and trade-in at $2650. NADA gives a high retail value of only $1680. The few GB500's that I can find for sale have prices ranging from $3500 to $5000. This model was only imported in 1989 and 1990. I plan to make the deal if I can sell the motorcycle for more than the value of the truck. My husband wants me to make sure there is a market for it before I trade.. The truck is an extra vehicle that we drive occasionally. Should I make the deal or not?

Response to "taxicabphd" - I don't know how reliable "WIKIPEDIA" is, but this is part of what it says "Honda GB500 - GB's were only imported for two years, 1989 and 1990. By the time the new inventory was gone from the showrooms it had already become known as a cult bike. Today, a good GB sells for as much or more than it did new, in 1990."

While I agree that the GB500TT isn't a collector's bike, it IS a cult bike. That is to say that there is a small segment of the bike lovers out there that would love to own one (myself included). It's got the looks of an old British cafe racer with Honda reliability! The best of both worlds in my opinion. In addition, your vehicle is only going to go down in value whereas this bike is going to continue to go up. I say go for it.

Well it is 2014 and the Honda GB500 is now becoming a really good investment, prices are rising and there is many people looking for good examples. In 2013 a zero miles example sold at Bonhams auctions in the UK for a cool £10,000. They are very much a Collectable and rare Motorcycle, buy one now while you can afford one.

The GB500T is NOT a collectible motorcycle. Go to a knowledgeable (and honest) antique bike collector and ask him what it's worth; I guarantee that he will laugh in your face. Ask the seller how long he has had the bike for sale, and then watch him try and keep a straight face. Wait one month and then offer him $1200; he will take it.

The bike is good for a beginner rider, lightweight, easy-to-handle. Plus, it has Honda reliability.

In response to your response: if it was such a hot seller, why did Honda stop importing it?? It's your money.

If the cars mileage isn't to high and the tires are in good condition then it should be worth close to that. i would still talk the guy down as much as possible.

Why not make the motorcycle the extra vehicle that you drive occaisionally? Just a thought.
