Both gays and straights have the same ability and same restrictions on marriage now. Neither can marry someone of the same sex. Why is this wrong?

We treat many other groups differently depending on the choices they make, and the way they life their lifes. For example we tax people more if they made more money. Shouldn't they pay the same rate as everyone else so we can be fair and treat everyone as equals?

We give tax breaks to people who own homes. Shouldn't people who rent get the same breaks? We do we give people with kids more deductions? They use more gvmt services than other people. Shouldn't the childless be treated equally and get tax breaks also?

Isn't it the truth that most people just want to be treated more equally than others?

Luis - Your gvmt and our gvmt give special perks, special benefits to certian groups to encourage that behavior. This is why tax credits are given to people who buy hybrid cars.

Gvmt is always slow to change. We didn't have federal "perks" for marriage untill the early 1900's.

This is when the political elite decided social engineering was a good idea.

For me, I rather get rid of all social engineering and have the gvmt protect the rights of the INDIVIDUAL rather than to try to make groups equal. This is the reason I don't support special rights for gays.

Get the flat tax, privitize social security, get gvmt off the backs of people and everyone will be equal. Only socialism can dictate how others should live. Still the gay community votes liberal. Where's a third party when you need them?

Luis - I do believe you will use these special rights to run my life. If I deny you a promotion because I don't think you sucking on your shirt is professional, you could make the claim that I didn't promote you because you were gay. Then I would have to prove my innocents. This is blackmail and extortion. You would have more control over my life than I would.

I do agree with you that we all should pay the same tax rate, homeowners shouldn't get more of a tax break than renters, and people with kids should not get better benefits that childless people.
But I disagree that gays have the same right to marriage as straights. Why shouldn't I be able to legally marry my same sex partner. How does that affect your life?

Uhm, point is you should be allowed to marry who you want regardless of gender, so long as the relationship is legal(consensual), which LGBT relationships are.

The thing here is love. I'm a man and I love a man, I should be allowed to marry him. Our relationship is monogamous, loving, consensual, and I see no reason I should be denied.

The problem is heterocentrism. People like to think that marriage is the sole domain of heterosexuals, and having that questioned somehow scares them.

It's wrong to deny same-sex couples the right to marry because it's discrimination, and any form of discrimination is wrong, plain and simple. Would you deny black people the same right? Then you could say that it doesn't matter what their race, noone can marry black people. You could also deny it to fat people, and then argue that noone can marry fat people, so it's perfectly all right.

But it's still discriminatory. Somehow though it seems people feel justified in discriminating against homosexuals.

We are treated with a total lack of respect on this issue just because heterosexual people seem to have some issue with making laws fair to all. It's as if marriage is such a fragile thing that if you give the right to marry to same-sex partners it'll somehow ruin the entire thing, instead of making it stronger.

Oh and I didn't choose this, it chose me, I had no say in it at all, and refuse to be treated as a second class citizen because of it, it's discriminatory to do so, and I will not stand for it, much like I would not stand for someone discriminating against you for any singular reason. Even if you argue it's a choice, it's a choice you should respect, since I am an adult, and what I do behind closed doors, or whom I choose to marry, should not be something you ever have a say in, it's just not right.

As for the rest of your arguments, they're based on circumstances of the people. Grouping people into homeowners or renters, each with their own rights and freedoms. You are not denied the right to rent, or the right to own, you are not denied the right to have children, or the right to put them up for adoption.

Likewise we should not be denied the right to marry. It should be our choice to make, not a choice for you to make for us.

I don't want you running my life, much like I assume you do not want me running yours.

Would you really want some poor straight person saddled with a gay partner who doesn't respond to them physically and gets resentful?

Also, marriage is a way to ensure that two people (and any children they have) have a designated primary caregiver and someone to take care of their responsibilities when they can't. Why don't you think same-sex couples who've been together for decades deserve that right?

I do not not understand your question. You say niether, meaning gays or straights, can marry someone of the same sex. Why would a straight person want to marry someone of the same sex?

Poor logic does not make for a good question. You need to find a good class in critical thinking, because you just aren't getting it.
