A small SUV? What about the Nissan Pathfinder? Or the Honda CR-V? The Japanese/foreign ones are the best, since they're built to last (or at least built to *outlast* their American competition). If you want to be a patriot or have a bone to pick with foreign makes, you could always try the Ford Explorer or Dodge Durango, though that one's on the larger side...

With gas prices high, you couldn't GIVE me an SUV.
Seriously.
I don't care what kind of deal you think you can get--saving a few thousand up front lowering the purchase price will mean spending more thousands on the lifetime of the vehicle to get you from point A to point B. I'm arriving at the same Point B place for 1/3 less the cost by driving a ford focus than ANY SUV.

I drive a corvette. I absolutely love it.
Get a hybrid SUV! They're so awesome.

Get an old suburban. They are horrible for the environment, gas, and big and bulky....WHo doesn't look for that in a suv.

I love my Honda CRV.. I can still parallel park like a champ and it feels like i'm driving a car.
but it has lots of room for groceries, lumber, moving, etc.
