People uses passive-aggressive behavior to manipulate other people, making them feel guilty if they don´t feel or behave according to the manipulator´s spectations. This behavior may be used unconsciously or on purpose. The thing that the manipulator gets from other people depends on his or her spectations or purposes (yes, this behavior can be used to bully or undermine people or just to get people behaving according to what is "right" from the manipulator´s point of view). Anyway, the manipulator seeks getting power through the use of shame. Probably most of us try to manipulate other people at any time, but when somebody uses this behavior very often, be aware of it. The trick is that you should not feel guilty. It´s the only way to dismantle the manipulator.

I think if it's chosen or acquired than it's just needlessly self-centered behavior.
but some people either grew up with it (so they see no "problem") or they are just naturally that way to some degree, and for them I think it's more self-defeating than anything because it doesn't do anything for themselves or people they care about.

I live with one. Its just frustrating! He can be very selfish and very childish and picky and have bullying tendencies at times, yet be so nice at other times. I didn't see the signs at all when we were dating. Sometimes you just have to play their game....

What do you get out of living? You grow up, you work, you get married, you have kids, then you get old and die, and everything is lost forever. What's the gain?
