They used to squeal, which I could live with, but now they grind and rumble. Do you think it's going to be exspensive to fix?

Look at Dee's answer then be afraid. Your car is not being stopped by brake pad to rotor friction (the way it's designed), instead your car is being stopped with metal to metal contact. Not a good or safe way to bring thousands of pounds of mass to a stop.
Depending on how long its been grinding, you will need new rotors. They can only turn a rotor with minimal grooves. Price depends on model (could be $40 to $60 plus a nice markup) per rotor. 2 rotors on the front.
Rear brakes are usually drum type. If they are in the same shape, they might have to be turned or replaced also. Although they are usually a little cheaper than the front, they get more expensive the longer you wait.
You will also need pads, fluid and possibly other parts. Find a reliable shop and don't cut corners on anything. You will end up paying $300 to $500 for a reliable brake job.

It is time for a brake job. The cost depends on the type of car you drive and the type of brake pads you get. The grinding sound you are hearing is the bare metal of the caliper (pads have worn out completely) striking the rotor. The rotor will need to be "turned" (resurfaced) and may possibly need to be replaced if damage is too severe.New rotors can get relatively expensive.

You have let the brakes go longer than you should have. Now the pads have worn completely out. Instead of the pad stopping you the metal backing plate is doing the stopping. This is not good. Take the car in and get the pads replaced, chances are very good that you will also have to replace the rotors. Since the metal will eat into them and ruin them. Good luck, and don't put it off any longer, it needs to be done now.

you are grinding into your rotors, the queek you heard was a sensor telling you ,that you need brakes now you are beyond that. if you continue to drive like that you will need rotors too. more money.

Depends on your type of car,
Average a brake job is gonna run you $100 to $200 ....
That depends on how bad your brakes really are, and again the type of vehicle you have..

WELL IT DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU GO? IF YOU GO TO ANY MIDAS DEALER THEY WILL ONLY CHARGE YOU I THINK ITS $80 FOR EACH FRONT AND REAR BRAKE? THE WORK THEY DO IS PRETTY GOOD FOR CHEAP BRAKES AND YOU GET A LIFETIME WARRANTY AS LONG AS YOU OWN THE CAR
