I actually witnessed a hit and run in a grocery store parking lot (other stores were also in this lot-it is like a mini mall). I was loading my kids and groceries in my car and diagonally ahead, I witnessed a senior citizen parking and struck the car on her right!
I watched to see what she'd do, and she had parked crooked, and left her car there and went off shopping(didn't notice which store she entered.)
And she had a mean look on her face as she glanced over at the damage she had just caused.
I was in a rush so I decided to jot down a quick note with the lady's license plate # on an envelope I found in my glove compartment and neatly tucked it under the windshield wiper of the car she struck. As I left, I passed by the car she hit and she caused a huge scratch including her car's paint on the other car!
I recall my sister leaving work years back and when she approached her car in the parking lot, her car was completely moved into the next parking spot and was also crooked! And dented! A witness had left a note on her windshield describing the vehicle that struck her car but was unable to get the license plate b/c apparently they peeled off.

Everyone says they would call the cops but statistics show that it's not true most of us would assume someone else called, mind are own business, or just call a friend to tell them about it. We should all remember this one and do it, GET INVOLVED!!

The answer is to call the cops, because it is the right thing to do. It doesn't matter if you put your self in the shoes of either person involved. The person hit deserves to know why it happened and the person who did it needs to know that the things we do affect others. This could happen again and the next person could end up dead.

Call the cops, of course. A hit and run is extrememly irrispobsible on the part of the "runner," and obviously, potentiall dangerous. It's soooo much worse to drive away that just deal with the consequences on continue with your day.

If it was a car hitting a person I would definitely call the cops, if its a car hitting another car probably mind my own business. Thats what insurance is for.

i might consider letting it slide under some rare circumstances. however, they would have to be really exceptional circumstances for it to happen. if i see something illegal happening, i call the cops.
hit and runs are a pet peeve of mine because i believe in responsibility. if i accidentally hit someone i either stay there and wait for them to figure out what needs to be done (that's what insurance is for), or i leave a note with contact information if i can't wait. i especially hate it when people are hurt or when there is serious damage, and i would definitely call the cops in either scenario, no matter what.

Call the cops. Wouldnt you want someone to call the cops if you were the one that was hit?

As I get out of my car dialling 911 with what I can read off of the license plate-I run over to help the victim til the ambulance and cops arrive.

This makes me think of Dane Cook. I think I would go ask the person that was hit if they wanted me to call the cops..... or the paramedics. Regardless, I would write down the license plate number of the vehicle that ran.
