You never know where an umpire is coming from and what hits him the wrong way. Remember, just like the rest of us they have bad days too. I once got tossed out of a game before it started when I reminded him of a bad call the day before. Just suck it up and come back to play another day.

it doesn't matter who you were speaking to, it matters who you were speaking about, it is not ok to badmouth the umpire to your team just because you aren't talking to him directly, in fact, many umpires are more offended by this than if you question their call to their face.

Also, it is worse to imply that the umpire has a motive to make bad calls, than to flat out say you disagree with his judgment. An umpire knows full well that you cannot please everyone, they are used to people disagreeing with their judgment, but to imply that he is intentionally making bad calls to go home earlier is to imply that he doesn't give a damn about the game and is just there for the money.

I think it was borderline to be thrown out for this, but not entirely unjustified either, it would depend on your tone of voice, how you had behaved the rest of the game, etc.

If you are whining and complaining the whole game, you're way more likely to get ejected for some little thing later.

I've been an umpire for 11 years, the one and only time I ejected a coach, it was for a comment he made to his team, however, he had been an a**hole the entire game, and although his comment was said while facing his players, he obviously meant for everyone to hear it because it was said plenty loud for all fans, umpires, and even opposing players to hear. I don't take pride in throwing people out for little things the way some umps do, but I still think this was the right call at the time.

Well, quite possibly yes. I am an umpire for little league and the fact that you said 'someone' and then implied that you were talking about a team is complete garbage. I would have tossed you because if you were talking about the team like you had said you would have said 'looks like you guys want to get home early'.

As a former umpire for almost ten years I would not have tossed you out of the game. In fact, I would have ignored you. However, if you kept up the scacasim I would have issued the team a warning. I have always been trained that if your comments ended or began with the word "you" then that would be grounds for an ejection.

The umpire is not supposed to comment to fans at all. An umpire with rabbit ears is a terrible umpire. As far as the integrity of the game. For him to speak to you during the game is reason number one to question his integrity.

An umpire that is that overprotective over his integrity should not be in the game anymore.

I am sorry that one rabbit eared umpire made you miss a game

sounds like something you would say to an umpire. I don't see how that statement could apply to your team. I doubt your coaching at a high level, so umpires tend to have shorter fuses at lower levels; but you were questioning his integrity.

Sounds like the umpire was a little bit over-sensitive to me.

Sounds like the ump has thin skin to me but, you aren't doing your team any favors by getting on the umps bad side. Also, it doesn't help to project a bad attitude into the players minds ether. That just makes a minor situation snowball into a major one. I've found it's best to encourage the players and to keep my mouth shut when I disagree with the umps.

You gotta hate umpires with little brains and big ears and that sound like what was umpiring your game.

The ump most of had a realy bad day.

As a former ump I once threw my lawyers kid out of a game.

I overheard "ump needs glasses" from the bench. Went to the bench and asked the team who said it, they all pointed to this one kid, I tossed him.

After the game I told the kids if an ump comes over to the bench you just sit there and be quiet. Ump will turn and walk away.
