He also asked my age and then was like thats a long way to go with med school and all. It doesnt bother me at all in fact I look forward to med school. It just amazes me how people dont let each other dream.

I agree with you. Some people don't realize that their choice in wording can have a devastating effect on another's dreams. Go ahead and dream, girl. It's your world and your life don't let anyone get in the way of either. Who knows maybe we'll meet in med school. I too am wanting to become a surgeon. An orthopedic surgeon to be exact. Good Luck to you.

The current state of the World is depressing, and it knows no boundaries. That being said, hold onto your dream. Keep pursuing it. Although I think you're reading too much into this; people always have something to say. Most people equate positions relative to helping people in the field of nursing, teaching, social work, etc. It's pretty common.

.....It's true. A lot of people think first about the challenges, downsides, problems and limitations. And then they express these things. What they say may be accurate as far as it goes, but hey never get around to thinking about the opportunities, upsides, solutions and possibilities.

The thing is, a balanced perspective examines both these things. Don't lose your ability to dream and consider the positive side in your perspective!

For your information, I have several friends who didn't start med school until they were in their 30s, and now all of them have thriving medical practices.

I wouldn't read too much into it. He was probably just trying to make conversation. Good luck in med school!

No, I don't think so.

I think he was probably putting himself in your shoes and seeing years and years of schooling plus hours upon hours of work, being on call etc.

I would have done the same thing. It just seems like murder and there are easier ways to help people.

Always remember - people who dream scare the HELL out of people who don't ;-) Whatever you want to do, I say go for it. Good luck, and don't let the bastards get you down!

Don't let others limit your options. Make a plan and stick to it. It's your life.
